She currently works as a project manager, focusing on data analysis and identifying social determinants of health to guide organizational priorities and decision-making. Known for her strong listening skills and reflective leadership style, she balances her full-time professional role with evening tutoring sessions, typically working from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. She is currently completing her Doctor of Public Health degree at Walden University, finalizing her dissertation with plans to graduate this summer.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I would say the people around me - my husband, my mom, both of my sisters. They're my motivators. Sometimes in this business of trying to do things, you'll get discouraged along the way, and I'll go to them and have my little talk. My older sister works in leadership, and actually both of them do. It's crazy because my husband family and his mom, are all are in leadership, so it makes my job much easier when I can kind of have those talks with them. They either have seen it, been through it, or experienced it, and then I don't have to be so frustrated because I can just kind of have them as my outlet. So family and friends encourage me along the way, and I attribute them to my success.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to be myself. Early in my journey, I learned that authenticity is one of the most valuable assets I can bring to any professional setting. By staying true to who I am, my values, and my strengths, I am better able to build genuine relationships, lead with integrity, and contribute meaningfully to my work. This guidance has shaped how I approach my career decisions, how I interact with others, and how I continue to grow both personally and professionally.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I will tell them to keep striving, and no matter how hard that it seems, keep going. One of my slogans I like to tell people is: You deal with the hard first, and the easy will come. So that's what I will tell a person that's coming up in the field. Most times, if you get the hard stuff out of the way, I mean, you got it out the way. That lets you know you're built for it. And then the easy stuff will follow. It'll get much easier for you.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

When it comes to challenges in my personal business, it's the seasons - the ups and downs throughout the year. Sometimes you might not get the referrals coming in as much as you would think. But then, you have to kind of continue to put yourself out there, you have to continue to market. In other words, don't give up when there isn't an influx of people coming in. If you just continue to stay the course of the race, the business will grow, and people will come. It's not easy, I will say that. You have to put in the work. As for opportunities, there are many in the tutoring field. Areas of opportunity can be collaboration when it comes to schools, when it comes to civic organizations. You can create a structure where you can tutor multiple students at the same time, online or in person. You can collaborate with other tutors and do something for the community together, because we are doing it to make sure that the students strive for the better.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Some of the core values to me are accountability - I hold my own self accountable in everything that I do. Another value for me is integrity. One thing that I've always been taught, and it's always been instilled in me, is do the right thing, even when no one is looking. If you just do the right thing, that'll take you a long way. And listening is also a core value for me. Anything that you do, you just want to take time and listen, because when you use your listening skills, then you can help whoever is in need.
