What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my determination and passion for helping others. I find it incredibly rewarding to assist people struggling with mental health and substance abuse. One of my most notable achievements has been helping create a space where people feel safe to ask for help and understand that mental health does not define them. I’m proud to have contributed to implementing peer advocates to further support those in need.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received is simple: all you need is CHAMPION. This mantra reminds me to stay resilient, advocate for myself and others, and never lose sight of my goals.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To young women entering this industry, my advice is to have determination. Believe in your capabilities, stay focused, and don’t let obstacles deter you from making a meaningful impact in your field.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Homelessness at 15 years old, residual effects lasted into my late 20s. In 2012, I went back to college to earn my Graduate degree. My first year, I walked everyday. In the middle of Western NY winters, with a pair of duck taped boots I used my “free clothing voucher” to purchase. These meager beginnings of my now blessed journey taught me to never give up. The greatest challenge was overcoming the status quo- that Mental Health is not something that needs to be swept under the rug like a secret, and it is Ok to ask for help.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value personal and professional growth equally. Outside of work, I enjoy playing the violin, singing, and drawing. These creative outlets help me maintain balance, express myself, and bring a sense of joy and fulfillment into my life.
