Her Story
About Jenny
I started with a passion for writing that I felt was something I was good at, and I followed that passion through college where I majored in environmental writing, thinking I wanted to work for nonprofits. I did some nonprofit work earlier in my career, but eventually a lot of the opportunities were in marketing, so I went that direction and really love it. I've been working as a marketing copywriter for about 12 years, and more recently focused solely on brand voice and messaging work. I launched Unearthed Voice to help wellness brands uncover their real brand voice and lock it down in a brand guide. I work primarily with businesses in the wellness space because many of them are very mission-focused and doing really great things for the world, and I love being able to help those brands. I'm seeing a gap in this area with AI and outsourcing, where brand voices easily drift if they're not documented. My one-week intensive process helps clients get that foundation settled early on, which saves them so much hassle, mental load, and stress later.

Ten minutes with Jenny
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think primarily determination and just keep plowing ahead. Even when things have not always gone the way I've wanted them to, or it's taken me longer in my career to get to the place that I want to be, I just understand that if you just keep making those small, daily decisions to make progress forward, eventually you will get there. It's just a matter of time and not giving up, being determined, and not letting any sort of challenge or obstacle stop you.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest piece of advice would be just do that foundational work early on. Develop and actually articulate your brand voice in a guide, and figure out what your messaging pillars are, because you can do that early on and it saves you so much hassle later on. You won't be realizing that your voice has strayed, or that you're redoing the same work in every message that you're creating and it's just not consistent. Get that foundation settled early on, and then it'll be more smooth sailing for you, less work, less mental load, less stress.
