Her Story

About Aditi

I am the founder of The Band-Aid Bunch, a community education and service organization that I started about two years ago. We go out to shelters and are looking to expand to prisons as well. With our resources and research, we teach research-based healthcare practices covering general health, and we also do mental health sessions where we offer journaling, crocheting, or little music sessions. We also go and meet the needs of whatever these places have, so for example, we volunteered in the kitchens and with tutoring for people taking their GEDs. I just graduated in May with my bachelor's degree in biology and philosophy from UNC Chapel Hill. I am pre-law, though I worked alongside my pre-med peers on research projects. My closest peer was interested in women's health and is looking to be an OB, so we worked closely with women from prison and what their health looked like, and we tried to use that kind of research experience to put together presentations that were catered to what we thought was needed. I am a CNA with nonviolent crisis intervention and BLS certifications. We have gotten funding so far from our initial GoFundMe, and we are looking to be affiliated with UNC Chapel Hill because we have an active group there. I have now moved back home to Atlanta and would love to start something up here as I go into higher studies and really branch out with this organization.

Ten minutes with Aditi

01What do you attribute your success to?

Pushing through any barrier or any type of conflict that arises, whether it's external or personal. I keep my head on my shoulders knowing that with my faith at the center of it all, I'm doing the right thing and it'll pay off in the end.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't settle for what's easy or convenient; challenge yourself to accomplish all that your potential has to offer.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Stay focused on your goals and maintain your priorities. Never let the noise distract you from who you are and what you're called to do.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

It's tough at times to coordinate initiatives, because there's just so much we have to work through, which I understand in this day and age. It's hard to know when someone is genuinely trying to help, versus if they have an ulterior motive. There are several barriers and people we have to talk to to convince them that we just want to utilize our resources to give back to our community. It can be hectic, but it's definitely been worth it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Values of utmost importance to me are integrity, perseverance, and most of all, compassion.
