My ability to be hands-on learner and being someone with a mindset that never stops wanting to grow and know more.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never stop learning! There is something in this industry that you can learn every single day. Even people who have been doing this 30+ years still learn something new. It's ever growing and ever changing and if you keep an open mind, you can continue to grow with it.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't get discouraged! This is a very male-driven industry and you don't see many women out in the field, but they are there! We have a great community of upcoming women and if you keep your head up, keep pushing forward, and make that name for yourself...you will not be forgotten!
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
This is a niche career and with the interest in trade jobs dwindling, it's hard to find good help. There's tons of opportunity in this industry and it's not just narrowed down to one thing. You could be an installer, fabricator, surveyor, service tech, salesperson, or anything else that peaks your interest. There is never a dull moment or lack of opportunity if you are an ambitious person.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Customer relations. This industry is big on word of mouth so it's important to be there for your client from start to finish. Be their consultant, their guide, and be communicative! It's hard to stay on that personal level when everything is changing to automation or AI. Clients love to have that personal connection and being able to speak to a real, qualified person about their needs.
