Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jill

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to maintaining a willingness to ask questions, seek guidance, and continuously learn. When I entered the banking industry, I wasn't afraid to acknowledge what I didn't know, and I viewed every challenge and mistake as an opportunity for growth. By staying curious, embracing new experiences, and surrounding myself with supportive colleagues, I developed both confidence and a genuine passion for my work.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I have been fortunate to learn from mentors who have significantly influenced both my professional and personal growth. My current boss, Andy Montgomery, has been an exceptional leader whose guidance has helped me build confidence, expand my skills, and embrace new responsibilities within the banking industry. I also credit a counselor who encouraged me to challenge my fears, believe in my potential, and continue growing both personally and professionally. Together, their mentorship has reinforced the importance of continuous learning, stepping outside my comfort zone, and believing in what I am capable of achieving.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to never be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes. Growth comes from being willing to learn, accept challenges, and seek support when needed. Surround yourself with people who encourage your development, and remember that every setback is an opportunity to become stronger and more capable.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in banking is maintaining meaningful personal relationships with customers as more services move to online and digital platforms. At the same time, this creates opportunities to innovate while continuing to provide exceptional customer service. Staying informed through ongoing education, industry research, leadership collaboration, and embracing emerging technologies such as AI allows us to better serve our customers and adapt to the evolving financial landscape.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value personal growth, family, teamwork, authenticity, perseverance, and meaningful human connection. I believe the strongest teams create an environment where people feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes, and supporting one another's success. Personally, I want my work and future endeavors to make a positive impact on others. I am especially passionate about encouraging women to prioritize themselves while balancing their careers, motherhood, family responsibilities, and personal aspirations, because I believe taking care of yourself enables you to better support those around you.
