Her Story

About Jillian

Jillian Chinchillo is a rising senior at Babson College with a strong interest in marketing consulting. During her freshman year, she served as CEO of a student company in the Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship class, where her team created a product from scratch and she gained experience working with clients and suppliers. As a sophomore, she was inducted into the selective Babson Consulting Association and completed a co-op as a marketing consultant with Zumba, focusing on expanding their gold program for older generations. In her junior year, she participated in the 10-week SPACE program on strategy, preparation, and consulting experience, and in a marketing class she developed a photography challenge initiative for a local Massachusetts zoo to boost shoulder season attendance. She is currently working at Wayfair in Boston on the strategy side of consulting in operations, participating in client meetings and B2B work. Jillian is passionate about helping businesses expand their marketing outreach and plans to pursue a career as a marketing consultant at a boutique firm after graduation, with a long-term goal of opening her own interior design firm. She credits her father, an independent contractor, as a key mentor who inspires her passion for meaningful work.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jillian

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my grit, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a willingness to learn from failure. I’ve always believed that growth comes from stepping outside my comfort zone and viewing setbacks as opportunities rather than obstacles. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, helping me become more resilient, adaptable, and determined. That mindset has pushed me to seek new experiences, embrace feedback, and continuously refine my skills. For me, success isn’t about never failing—it’s about having the perseverance to keep learning, improving, and moving forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received was to identify and refine the strengths that make you unique instead of spending all your energy trying to perfect your weaknesses. While it’s important to address areas for improvement, your greatest opportunities often come from leaning into the skills that set you apart. There will always be people and organizations looking for exactly what you do best. Focusing on developing those strengths has taught me to be more confident in my abilities, pursue opportunities that align with my passions, and create the greatest impact by bringing my unique perspective and skill set to the table.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering consulting is to own your seat at the table. Consulting has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, and it can be easy to focus on being the only woman in the room. Instead, shift your mindset to: I’m in the room because I earned it, and I’m just as qualified as everyone else. Confidence comes from recognizing the value of your perspective and trusting the skills and experiences that got you there. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, share your ideas, and take on challenges. Your unique voice isn’t something to minimize; it’s one of your greatest strengths and can set you apart as a leader.
