About Joan
Joan Tyson is a Senior Paralegal at Bryson Harris Suciu DeMay PLLC with more than 35 years of experience in the legal profession. She earned associate degrees in Computer Science and Paralegalism from Daymar College in Owensboro, Kentucky, beginning her career with a strong foundation in technology and legal support. Over the course of her career, Joan has developed extensive experience across a wide range of practice areas, including personal injury, workers’ compensation, medical malpractice, probate and estates, collections, general practice, black lung, criminal law, family law, class actions, and mass arbitrations.
Throughout her career, Joan has built a reputation as a dedicated advocate, skilled litigation professional, and trusted partner to attorneys and clients. In her current role, she supports complex legal matters through fact-finding projects, case management, document preparation, compliance oversight, and maintaining organized systems that help attorneys effectively serve their clients. She believes that success in the legal field is built on integrity, consistency, compassion, humility, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Joan values teamwork and mentorship, describing her colleagues as a team of “heroes without capes” who support one another while working toward justice.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Joan is deeply committed to leadership, service, and community involvement. She has served as a board member of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association since 2016, helping organize educational opportunities and networking events for paralegals throughout the region. She also serves as Vice President of 89 Angels and contributes to charitable and community initiatives, including youth outreach and disaster relief efforts. Guided by faith, gratitude, and a passion for helping others, Joan continues to inspire those around her by mentoring future legal professionals, advocating for clients, and demonstrating the lasting impact of dedication and service.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to passion, perseverance, discipline, and faith. After 35 years as a paralegal, I have learned that true success comes from integrity, consistency, compassion, and a commitment to serving others.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to never stop learning. Throughout my career in the legal field, I have learned that growth comes from staying adaptable, valuing experience, and consistently striving to do my best. Titles may open doors, but character, reliability, and integrity are what build a lasting reputation.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the legal profession is to believe in themselves, trust their voice, and never hesitate to take their place at the table. Stay curious, seek mentors, and embrace continuous learning. Success is built through persistence, humility, dedication, and the willingness to lift others as you grow.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are teamwork, respect, and support for others. I value being part of a team where everyone helps each other grow, learn, and succeed. Whether working remotely or collaborating through team meetings, I believe a positive and supportive environment allows us to do our best work and serve others effectively.
