About Joyce
Joyce Mehlman is a respected banking and fintech executive with 45 years of experience transforming financial services through innovation, operational excellence, and strategic leadership. She began her career in banking immediately after college and has been at the forefront of the fintech evolution since 2005. As the Founder of iLEX Consulting Group, LLC, established in 2011, Joyce has built a leading consulting organization that supports banks and fintech companies with compliance readiness, operational strategy, risk management, payments, and program implementation. Under her leadership, iLEX has grown to a team of approximately 20 employees, launched more than 65 programs, and helped numerous banks successfully enter the fintech space.
Throughout her career, Joyce has developed a unique perspective by understanding fintech from both the banking and technology sides. She has held senior leadership roles including COO, Head of Compliance and Operations, and executive positions focused on change management, banking operations, and strategic growth. In her current work, she serves as the compliance officer and directly leads the project management office, guiding teams through complex launches, regulatory requirements, vendor relationships, and operational challenges. Her expertise spans payments, ACH, debit programs, private-label banking, fraud prevention, AML, third-party vendor management, and building scalable processes for emerging financial technologies.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my father, who was an incredible role model and a constant source of inspiration. We graduated from college on the same day, and he taught me the importance of pursuing what I want, believing in myself, and never backing down from challenges. His example showed me the value of determination, resilience, and having the confidence to go after my goals.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to just breathe and choose my battles wisely. There are only so many moments in life where it is worth putting my energy into a fight, so it is important to be intentional about where I focus my time and effort. Staying calm, thoughtful, and strategic has helped me navigate challenges and make better decisions.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to take ownership of your life and your future. Do not allow someone else to define your path or make decisions about your destiny. Follow your dreams, believe in yourself, and make yourself known. Opportunities often come when you are willing to step forward, advocate for yourself, and pursue what you truly want.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are honesty, loyalty, and enjoying life. I believe being honest and loyal creates strong relationships both personally and professionally. I also believe it is important to appreciate life, make meaningful memories, and embrace experiences such as traveling and exploring the world.
