Her Story

About Joyce

A New York City trained painter, Prigot has been drawing and painting all her life. She’s earned many juried awards and participated in over 40 group exhibitions across three states. While rooted in academic techniques, her works speak with a contemporary voice. Prigot views paintings as a version of reality strained through a painter’s skill , perceptions, and personality. She paints because she believes in the importance of art and she loves the immediacy and engrossing nature of the craft, with all the challenges and delightful insights it affords. She can’t imagine ever stopping. Currently, Prigot lives in Florida where she teaches and maintains a studio practice painting in many genres, including commissioned portraiture.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Joyce

01What do you attribute your success to?

Prigot attributes her success to a great extent to the influence of her father, Aaron Prigot, a Harvard-trained medical researcher and surgeon, whose example instilled in her a commitment to excellence. Moreover, she underscores the importance of strong, foundational education, self-trust, consistency, grit, purposeful goal-setting, and lifelong learning.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to recognize, both intellectually and wholeheartedly, that each day is precious. I have learned to use my time intentionally, make meaningful choices, embrace opportunities for growth, and use each day purposefully rather than taking life for granted.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to pursue as much education as possible and take it seriously, particularly early in your career when your mind is highly adaptable and receptive to learning. Set high standards for yourself and focus on continuous growth rather than comparing yourself to others or settling for mediocrity. I also encourage women to be financially responsible and thoughtful about taking on debt. Most importantly, develop strong cognitive and problem-solving skills, as the ability to think critically, adapt, and approach challenges strategically will serve you throughout your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The painting world has become increasingly competitive, with a growing number of painters and diverse styles competing for visibility and recognition. One of the greatest challenges is identifying the most effective marketing and publicity strategies to reach the right audiences and build a strong presence. At the same time, this competitive environment presents an opportunity to expand on-line, explore new ways of connecting with clients. and consistently promote work with greater intention and professionalism.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are self-trust, self-worth, excellence, consistency, and compassion. I believe in developing a strong sense of confidence in my abilities and recognizing my own value without relying on external validation. I strive to be disciplined every day to make steady progress toward my goals, even through small, intentional steps. Equally important is building meaningful connections, which allows me to approach both my professional and personal relationships with empathy, authenticity, and purpose.
