Her Story
About Kali
Kali Nixon serves as the Agency Owner and Founder of Brightway Insurance, The Nixon Agency. Since entering the insurance industry in 2019 through an opportunity with a State Farm agent, she has developed a strong passion for helping individuals, families, and businesses protect what matters most. In August 2026, she launched her own agency, where she provides personalized insurance solutions and helps clients navigate their coverage options with confidence. Her areas of specialization include personal and commercial insurance, auto and homeowners insurance, life insurance, and small business coverage. As a military veteran, Nixon draws on her background in service and protection to guide her approach to client relationships, emphasizing trust, education, and peace of mind.
Throughout her career, Nixon has gained experience in insurance sales, underwriting, and account management. During her time at State Farm, she helped customers identify their insurance needs, explained coverage options, developed new business, and strengthened her understanding of agency operations through the State Farm Agent Aspirant Program. She later served as an Underwriter at Auto-Owners Insurance, a Commercial Lines Account Manager at Crutchfield & Graves Insurance Agency, and a Captive Account Manager at Gregory & Appel. These positions broadened her expertise in risk assessment, policy administration, commercial coverage, and customer service. Without formal mentorship, she relied on self-directed learning, determination, and transferable professional skills to advance in the field. She ultimately made the courageous decision to leave the stability of traditional employment to establish her own business, a milestone she considers one of her proudest professional accomplishments. Nixon earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy University.
Nixon attributes her progress to perseverance, her military background, faith, a willingness to keep moving forward, community involvement, and the unwavering support of her husband. She believes that success often requires creating opportunities rather than waiting for someone else to provide them, particularly when navigating an industry where women may not always see themselves represented in leadership. She encourages young women entering insurance to join supportive professional communities, connect with experienced women who can offer guidance, maintain a positive attitude, and pursue their dreams with confidence. Beyond her business, Nixon is interested in supporting veterans, community improvement initiatives, crime and legal-related causes, and mental health and crisis intervention efforts. Through her agency and volunteer interests, she remains committed to serving others and building meaningful relationships within her community. Ten minutes with Kali
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to God, hard work, determination, and a strong support system. My husband has been one of my biggest supporters, always encouraging me, staying positive, and believing in my dreams. My military background taught me discipline and resilience, but my faith and the love and support of those around me continue to push me forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never let fear stop me from pursuing my goals. Believe in yourself, even when others don't see your vision. Stay consistent, keep learning, and never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Sometimes the biggest opportunities come from taking the biggest risks.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the insurance industry is to find a supportive community and build relationships with women who have already established themselves in the field. Having a mentor or someone who can share valuable insights, offer guidance, and encourage your growth can make a significant difference in your professional journey. I also encourage young women to maintain a positive attitude, remain open to learning, and stay persistent when faced with challenges. Most importantly, believe in yourself, pursue your dreams with confidence, and never allow fear or uncertainty to prevent you from reaching your goals. With determination, a strong support system, and a willingness to grow, you can build a rewarding career and create opportunities for yourself and others.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in insurance is increasing women's representation in leadership and creating pathways for women to advance into ownership and decision-making roles. At the same time, entrepreneurship offers an opportunity to challenge existing expectations, build inclusive workplaces, and develop stronger relationships with clients and communities. By leading with integrity, embracing continuous learning, and demonstrating the value women bring to the industry, I hope to contribute to a future where more women can lead and succeed.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith and family keep me grounded, while integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust guide how I treat clients and conduct my business. I believe in serving my community, protecting what matters to others, and building relationships based on respect, transparency, and genuine care. Above all, I value resilience, personal responsibility, and the determination to keep growing while using my success to create opportunities and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
