Ten minutes with Katherine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my ability to pivot and try a lot of different things throughout my career. In my corporate life, I was able to continue to grow by exploring different roles and industries. I always wanted to start my own business, and the fact that I finally did it later in my career while balancing everything is a strong personal achievement for me. I'm still here, still balancing, still learning, and still growing. Starting your own business and being a small business owner is not for the faint of heart, with a lot of ups and downs, but navigating through that has taught me a lot of resilience. I've definitely learned a lot about myself by going through this process, and it's been amazing.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to be kind to yourself. In your career you will have a lot of ups and downs and the downs can lead you to doubt yourself. You should take any adversity as a learning opportunity. As long as you are learning, you are growing. In building my own business, it affirmed something that I have always dreamed of and encouraged me to take ownership of my professional path to do what I love.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is that you, too, can take off on your own. It is not easy, and it is not for the faint of heart, but with dedication and persistence, it can be both highly rewarding and successful.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
As a small business owner with a business that has been open for less than two years, one of the biggest challenges I face is building stability, visibility, and a consistent client base while carefully managing resources and cash flow. At the same time, this stage presents valuable opportunities to be flexible, adapt quickly, refine my offerings, and establish strong relationships that will support long-term growth and success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my work, what's most important to me is creating memorable and joyful experiences for my clients. I love seeing people create their own flower arrangements and the light in their eyes when they realize they're bringing something home that they made themselves. These events are special moments, and I want people to always remember that time and that space where they made their bouquet. It's usually a fun time when people are happy and relaxed, and seeing the joy in their faces really makes all the prep work worth it. In my personal life, I enjoy traveling with my husband, trying new restaurants, and I'm really into pop culture. It's about finding that balance between working hard and enjoying life.
