Ten minutes with Kayla
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is rooted in grit, coachability, and a refusal to accept the status quo. I’m motivated by solving structural problems and building systems that create lasting value, especially in industries that are slow to change.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to learn how the system actually works—understand the economics, the incentives, and where risk lives—before trying to change it. Be coachable longer than feels comfortable, choose rooms that challenge you, and focus on building real competence before worrying about visibility. You don’t need to be louder to be effective; you need to be prepared, grounded in results, and willing to play the long game. Credibility is built by doing the work, protecting your integrity, and letting outcomes speak for themselves... and being loud when you need to.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in agriculture right now is navigating consolidation, volatility, and policy-driven change while still delivering profitability at the farm level. At the same time, that pressure creates opportunity—there’s real momentum around aligning economics with outcomes through better markets, smarter incentives, and practical innovation. The leaders who will win are the ones who can translate complexity into execution and build solutions that work in real-world operations, not just in theory.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me—both professionally and personally—are integrity, coachability, and accountability. I believe in doing the right thing even when it’s hard, staying open to learning and feedback, and taking ownership of outcomes. I value discipline, humility, and long-term thinking, and I’m motivated by work that creates real impact rather than short-term recognition. Consistency between how I show up at work and in life is important to me—results matter, but how you achieve them matters more.
