Kim Cone is a dedicated advocate for military families and the Executive Director of AVET Project, Inc., a nonprofit organization based at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. For over 16 years, she has devoted her career to supporting service members, veterans, and their families by providing education on VA benefits, resources, and other essential programs. Through her leadership, AVET Project has grown into a trusted organization that not only assists military families but also raises public awareness about their sacrifices and needs.

Her journey as an advocate and entrepreneur began early in life, demonstrating a natural drive for initiative and service. Kim’s commitment to helping others was further shaped by her personal experiences, including facing workplace challenges that inspired her to address unmet needs in her community. She and her family traveled extensively to share the AVET Project mission, connecting with supporters and spreading awareness about the organization’s work.

On a day-to-day basis, Kim’s role is dynamic and hands-on, balancing calls, emails, and meetings with direct consultations for veterans. Beyond her professional efforts, she emphasizes gratitude and respect for those who serve, encouraging others to recognize and support the military community. While she keeps the focus on AVET Project rather than personal accolades, her passion, leadership, and tireless work continue to make a meaningful impact on countless lives.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to empower themselves with the education and tools necessary to succeed. Don’t wait—take initiative and learn as you go. Make the most of every free program, resource, or educational opportunity available, and use them to build your skills and confidence.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is securing funding to support our veterans. While partnering with the VA and its programs has historically been a significant advantage, recent changes in leadership have made navigating these relationships more complex.

At the same time, there is tremendous opportunity when we have the right support and resources. With adequate funding and collaboration, we can make a meaningful impact by providing veterans with the guidance, services, and care they need to thrive.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me, both in my work and personal life, is empowering others. I see it as a God-given calling to help people reach their full potential and make a positive impact in their lives.
