Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kortney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my drive, strong work ethic, and my refusal to settle for "good enough." From a young age, I was determined to continue growing, challenge myself, and create opportunities where none seemed to exist. By maintaining high personal standards, advocating for myself, and remaining committed to continuous improvement, I have been able to build a rewarding career and lead through periods of growth and change.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to always advocate for themselves and never settle for less than they deserve. Never allow yourself to be placed in the background—have confidence in your abilities, make your skills and values visible, and pursue opportunities that align with who you are. Stay true to your standards, continue investing in your personal and professional growth, and don't be afraid to take ownership of your career.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges in the hospitality industry is overcoming gender bias in leadership roles while successfully navigating organizational transitions, such as changes in ownership. At the same time, there are significant opportunities to drive strategic growth through expansion into new locations, innovative business models, and continued rebuilding and strengthening of operations following the disruptions experienced during the COVID-19 era.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Compassion is the foundation of both my professional and personal life. I believe that understanding people's experiences helps create common ground, fosters fairness, and makes me a more approachable leader. By combining compassion with high standards, respect, and authenticity, I strive to create an environment where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.
