Her Interview
Ten minutes with Krystal
01What do you attribute your success to?
In large part my dad. He got me started on the computer when I was young. He was always into the newest tech at the time and he exposed me to technology and software young to where it just became like second nature for me. So I credit him hugely for allowing me to flourish just naturally by my own talent in the software industry.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just remember he's just a dude. No matter what he can't hurt you. He's just a dude. State the facts how they are. That really brought me back down to Earth and helped me overcome PTSD triggers at work.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You have to really just trust your gut, trust your instinct, trust that women's intuition. It's rarely steered me wrong. Don't sell yourself short. Even in the beginning of your career when men might disrespect you, overcome that and it sets the stage for later success once you achieve a manager title.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Biggest challenges are cost cutting because everything's so expensive and AI is changing everything completely. A lot of places are cutting QA entirely and having engineers use AI to do their own QA. Opportunities are to utilize AI as a tool to automate repetitive tasks and free up human time for complex scenarios that require human judgment and perception, creating more career opportunities for thought leadership.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I always want to be true to myself and to be genuine. I don't want to do anything half-assed. I want to do it with the full ass. Recently I've learned to give myself permission to say no to things so I only do the things that I genuinely want to do.
