Her Story
About Krystle
Coming out of high school, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, but I didn't want to deal directly with patients the way a nurse does. I started working as a cashier in a pharmacy, and they helped me get my certification there. A colleague actually lent me her really thick study book - one you would normally have to pay for - so I didn't have to pay for it, and that's how I studied and became certified. I've been a pharmacy technician for over 17 years now, and I still love what I do. My main focus at work is making sure medications are billed correctly so there are no mistakes with patients taking the wrong medication. I've always been interested in hair extensions - I've been doing my own hair since I was young and I change hairstyles very frequently. In December 2025, I launched my online wig store because I thought, why not share that passion? I also joined with my sister about 6 months ago to start a health and beauty business. I've been in a health and wellness company before, and it has benefited me using natural supplements that you take on a daily basis. This business offers vitamins, other natural supplements to help with the body, skincare products, makeup, hair care - basically everything from head to toe. I also launched a pharmacy technician e-book in December 2025 because I've been in pharmacy so long and I wanted to give back by creating something on how to become a certified technician. I work my full-time pharmacy job and come home to promote my websites and book. I recently completed a program and received certification in data science and machine learning in January 2025, and I also have an Associate of Science degree. I'm married with three children - two still at home and one in college.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Krystle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say working in a pharmacy alongside pharmacists and other technicians who I enjoyed seeing what they did - that inspired me to go ahead and get certified. There was one girl who actually lent me her book, a really thick book that you would have to pay for, but I didn't have to pay for it. She lent me her book to study with, and that's how I became certified - by studying with her book and then taking the exam. As far as the hair store, hair extensions is just something I've been interested in for a long time. There's so many different ones, so many different ways you can style your hair. I've learned a lot from watching people do hair on YouTube.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say it's important to make sure it is something that she is interested in herself, not someone else's idea. You can try someone else's idea, but if you don't like it, you don't want to stay there - you want to do what you're interested in so that you can get into something you love doing. You don't want to be stuck in someone else's path just because someone else told you about it or just because someone else is doing it. You want to make sure you're interested in what you're about to do, and make sure you believe in yourself.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
My biggest challenge in pharmacy is basically the amount of people and prescriptions we're doing a day. Sometimes we're short of people, so that's double the work. It can get pretty bad sometimes when we're short-staffed. The other challenge is just dealing with the general public and medication, because some medications are very important that people have to have, and if we don't have it, then it's a problem.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my personal life, just making sure my children are happy. I can't give them everything, but I just want to make sure they're happy and not struggling mentally. As far as work, I just want to make sure I go to work and do what I'm supposed to do. I want to make sure medications are billed correctly so that there's no mistakes with patients taking the wrong medication. I just basically go to work and make sure I get my job done.
