Laura Mattimoe, MSOH, CSP, is a dedicated Safety and Health Consultant with the OSHA On-Site Consultation Program, where she has served since 2019. In her role, she partners with small, high-hazard businesses across northwest Ohio to strengthen workplace safety and compliance with OSHA regulations. She is known for her ability to blend technical expertise with practical, common-sense solutions, helping organizations assess risks, refine policies, and create safer environments for their employees.

Her career spans more than two decades in safety, health, and emergency response. Before joining OSHA, Laura held roles as a Safety Coordinator at ProMedica, an EMT with North Central EMS, and a Safety Specialist with Metroparks Toledo. These experiences gave her a strong foundation in both preventive safety practices and emergency response, shaping her comprehensive approach to workplace health and safety. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Science in Occupational Health from the University of Toledo.

Beyond her professional work, Laura is deeply committed to service and community impact. She has volunteered with the American Red Cross for over 25 years, supporting disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. As a Certified Safety Professional and recognized National Farm Safety and Health Week Champion, Laura continues to advance her mission of protecting workers, educating businesses, and promoting safer, healthier communities.

I attribute my success to determination and a relentless drive to pursue my goals. By staying focused, committed, and willing to put in the hard work necessary, I have been able to overcome challenges and continue moving forward. I believe that success comes from setting clear objectives, remaining persistent, and not being afraid to go after what you truly want.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to learn all you can from everyone you meet. Every interaction provides an opportunity to gain insight, build knowledge, and expand perspective. Networking not only helps create valuable connections but also fosters continuous learning, allowing you to grow both personally and professionally.

My advice to young women entering this industry is to have confidence in your voice and know that your perspective matters. Speak up, trust yourself, and don’t hesitate to share your ideas. Embrace every opportunity that comes your way, even if it feels challenging, and approach it with determination and resilience. By believing in your abilities and staying true to your goals, you can make a meaningful impact and thrive in this field.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest opportunities in this field right now is the ability to work directly with small businesses across Northwest Ohio to help them better understand and comply with OSHA regulations. This not only strengthens compliance but also creates safer, healthier worksites for employees. Each consultation presents a chance to make a meaningful impact by guiding organizations toward practical, sustainable safety practices that protect workers and improve overall workplace culture.

The values most important to me, both in my work and personal life, are rooted in never placing limits on myself and always striving for excellence. I believe in setting a high bar, pushing beyond comfort zones, and continuously challenging myself to grow.
