Laura Swain
Laura Swain (She/Her) is a Personal Trainer, CEO, and Founder of SlimGrips Dumbbells, as well as the owner and lead coach of Trainer/Coach Laura Swain. Based in San Jose, California, she trains in-person clients locally and serves online clients nationally. Currently completing a mindfulness coaching certification, Laura integrates mindfulness practices into her training, blending strength training, traditional personal training, and mindset work to support holistic wellness. She emphasizes honesty, safety, and gradual confidence-building in her client relationships, making fitness effective, empowering, and enjoyable. Laura is committed to practicing what she teaches and centers her approach on compassionate, human-centered coaching. She is also referred to and supported by book coach Victoria Crosby, highlighting her dedication to professional development and mentorship.
Certified as a personal trainer in the mid-2000s, Laura began training clients in homes and gyms before launching her own business in 2008. She operated a physical training facility until 2020, when she pivoted to online and hybrid coaching following COVID-related closures. Over her career, Laura has led large weight-loss groups, helped clients achieve significant body transformations, trained athletes including professional boxers, and worked with clients across all age groups, including older adults. Her diverse experience reflects her adaptability, expertise, and dedication to empowering clients of every background to reach their health and fitness goals.
As the innovator behind SlimGrips Dumbbells, Laura identified a common pain point—strain in the hands, wrists, and forearms during weightlifting—and created a product designed specifically for women’s hands. With thinner handles for improved comfort and muscle activation, SlimGrips Dumbbells are now used in fitness centers, high schools, and homes across the United States. Outside of fitness, Laura enjoys volleyball, spending time at the beach, and embracing a balanced, active lifestyle. Her career reflects her commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and helping individuals achieve their peak physical, mental, and emotional health through thoughtful, personalized training.
