La Vonda Lewis, RVT
La Vonda Lewis, RVT, is a highly respected Registered Veterinary Technician with over 40 years of dedication to veterinary medicine. Her lifelong passion for animals began in childhood and has guided every chapter of her career. After successfully owning and operating a construction company, LaVonda made the bold decision to follow her true calling in animal health. Today, she practices emergency veterinary medicine at BluePearl Pet Hospital, where her clinical expertise, calm leadership, and compassion provide critical care and reassurance to both patients and their families. In addition to her clinical work, she is a children’s book author, creating stories that inspire curiosity, compassion, and a love of learning in young readers.
A tireless advocate for veterinary professionals, LaVonda is renowned for her pivotal work in advancing the role of registered veterinary technicians in Oklahoma. She successfully petitioned the governor to update state regulations, allowing technicians to perform essential procedures independently, similar to the role of EMTs in human medicine. This landmark achievement not only elevated the profession but also ensured faster, more effective care for animals in crisis. LaVonda has served as president and vice president of the Oklahoma Veterinary Technicians Association and on the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association Board, strengthening collaboration between veterinarians and technicians and championing education and professional development across the state.
LaVonda’s career is defined by resilience, perseverance, and leadership. Overcoming early challenges, including retaking her GED and navigating personal obstacles, she excelled in the veterinary technology program at Murray State College, graduating among the top of her class and becoming one of only eight students to pass the national exam out of 27 who started. She is recognized as the highest decorated Registered Veterinary Technician in Oklahoma, reflecting decades of service, mentorship, and professional excellence. Outside of her work, LaVonda enjoys life on her small ranch with her family, including her grandchildren, continuing to inspire future generations of veterinary professionals through her example, advocacy, and dedication.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me in both my work and personal life are integrity, compassion, and dedication. Outside of my clinical work, I balance life on my small ranch with my greatest joy, my family, including my grandchildren. I am also a children’s book author, creating stories about animals to inspire curiosity, compassion, and a love of learning in young readers. Whether managing my ranch, caring for emergency patients, or mentoring young veterinarians to strive for excellence, I lead with heart and a commitment to making a meaningful impact. My story reflects perseverance, compassion, and leadership, and I take pride in a legacy defined not only by the animals I have helped but by the countless lives, human and animal, that I continue to inspire.
