Her Story

About Linda

I'm currently a business consultant, though I've also done political consulting work. I created a budget for a political candidate who will probably run in the next 24 months or so, and I also do the preliminary staffing, looking through everyone's resume, suggesting people for his staff, and suggesting community events for him to attend. I love writing speeches and I'm always up for hire for that. I've been doing legal work for the past 20 years. I have a paralegal degree, an associate's degree in paralegal studies, and I also have a master's degree in paralegal studies from George Washington University. I decided to branch out on my own, and I'm a book author with two published books already out on Amazon. One is in politics, and the other is on social media law. Many people don't realize that there are laws with regards to social media, and people have to be very careful with regards to slander and defamation. I'm about to release a book this summer called The Rhythm of Resilience, which is going to be 50 poems written by me. I have a seasonal podcast called Linda Love Talks, and the difference between my podcast and the billion podcasts that are out there is that it's not just my opinion, I bring experts to talk about various subjects. I've had two medical doctors on the podcast, I've had attorneys on the podcast. At the core of it, there's education. I'm also a mentor to many college students. I've mentored for Berkeley College, which is in New York and New Jersey, and I have also served as mentor for George Washington University. Currently, I am a doctoral candidate at Northeastern University. I'm learning about education and the systems that we're all in, and I feel like my path is motivating other individuals and helping them.

Ten minutes with Linda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to continuously setting goals for myself and never limiting myself. I worked my way up in corporate for 20 years, starting as a receptionist, then becoming an administrative assistant, and eventually an executive assistant. But when I got there, it felt so empty. I realized that I am the product, and I need to do something for myself. The only limitations there really are, are the limitations you self-impose on yourself. I self-imposed myself to only being an executive assistant, but I learned to think outside of the box and not limit myself. I also learned never to put my career or my wealth generation in the hands of other people. You have to always plan for yourself and save for yourself. I always say, don't put your career in somebody else's hands. You always have to challenge yourself and keep setting goals. With the right fire that you have inside, the motivation, and perhaps the support system, you can be unstoppable.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My best advice is just do it. You won't know everything, you won't know how to do everything, you'll be scared, you'll doubt yourself, but the only way, many times, to learn is through trial and fire. You have to just put yourself out there. And don't be so hung up on perfection. As long as you get it done, and you do it the best way that you know how, then just get it done. We all just have to be, many times, our own cheerleader. You won't really find too many cheerleaders sometimes in your families or in a group, but you have to be your own cheerleader and your own best friend.
