Her Story
About Lisa
Lisa Wicks is the Founder and CEO of Maison Vivant, a lifestyle and storytelling brand centered on “The Art of Living Timelessly.” Based in Alabama, Maison Vivant brings together her work as an author and speaker with her lifelong interests in horses, home, gardens, food, travel, hospitality, and thoughtful design. Her creative work includes the children's book *Jester the Wonder Horse and the Christmas Wish*, while her forthcoming projects include *I Married the Village Idiot: True(ish) Tales from a Life Less Ordinary* and additional writing projects inspired by her experiences and interests.
Lisa's career has followed a diverse and unconventional path, encompassing sales, training, insurance, art galleries, luxury retail merchandising, historic-home restoration, event production, branding, photography, and creative development. She has also hosted a radio show and written copy, drawing on these experiences to develop her distinctive approach to storytelling and audience engagement. Her background in horses and agriculture is deeply connected to her identity and creative work; she comes from a seventh-generation farm family and has extensive experience with horses, including operating a horse barn where she worked with able-bodied and disabled students as well as troubled youth. She has also maintained a lifelong interest in farming, teaching, and equestrian activities.
Through Maison Vivant, Lisa is bringing these varied experiences together into a cohesive platform focused on books, speaking, editorial content, and future creative experiences. She attributes her success to hard work, determination, persistence, adaptability, and a commitment to making a difference every day. She encourages the next generation to remain curious, take risks, embrace change, trust themselves, and confidently take their place at the table. Guided by integrity, honesty, kindness, and a desire to lead by example, Lisa continues to use her writing and storytelling to share her journey, connect with others, and encourage people to find greater fulfillment and joy in everyday life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Lisa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, determination, and refusing to give up, no matter what obstacles I encounter. I have learned to embrace change, overcome challenges, and look for opportunities to make a difference every day. I believe persistence and the willingness to adapt have allowed me to continue creating new chapters throughout my life and career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to always remain open to learning new things and to learn as much as I can. I believe it is equally important to trust yourself, advocate for yourself, and stand up for what you believe in. Staying curious while having the confidence to use your own voice has helped me navigate the many different chapters of my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women is to be exceptional, take risks, and embrace change. Make the best of whatever situation you are in and actively look for the positive. Most importantly, do not be afraid to take your place at the table. Sit at the head of the table when the opportunity arises, trust your abilities, and have the confidence to pursue what you believe you can accomplish.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in my field is to continue writing and sharing my journey with others. Through my books, speaking, and creative work, I want to provide guidance, happiness, and positivity while encouraging people to live more fulfilled and meaningful lives. I see storytelling as an opportunity to connect with people, share experiences, and bring together the many different aspects of a life well lived.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are integrity, honesty, and kindness. I believe in leading by example, being a great listener, reaching out to people who are in need, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. These values guide both the work I create and the way I approach my relationships and everyday life.
