About Lori
Lori Lee Peters is a barbershop owner, licensed cosmetologist, and author based in Anacortes, Washington. She has owned and operated Snip N Sail since 2003, bringing more than two decades of experience in the beauty and personal-care industry. Her professional journey has included training in cosmetology, dental assisting, massage therapy, and flight attendant work, as well as experience in automobile sales and life insurance. Through her work, Lori has built her career around serving people, listening to their needs, and treating every customer with respect. Lori is also the author of God, the Mafia, My Dad, and Me: A True Story of Secrets and Survival, a memoir inspired by her father's experiences and the promise she made to share his story. Published in 2021, the book has received recognition and awards, opening a new chapter in Lori's career as a writer and storyteller. Her commitment to researching and documenting her family's history reflects her determination to preserve an important story while sharing a deeply personal journey of secrets, survival, and resilience. Building on the success of her memoir, Lori has expanded the story into a screenplay titled Two Fates, which has earned recognition in screenplay competitions and attracted interest from film professionals. She has worked with writers, mentors, producers, and industry platforms as she pursues a screen adaptation of her story. Across both her entrepreneurial and creative pursuits, Lori's journey reflects persistence, gratitude, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities while honoring the values she learned from her father.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from a promise I made to my father on the day of his funeral. He went through something extraordinary helping the FBI bring down a mafia family in the 70s. On that day I said Dad I'm gonna finish what you started. I don't know how and I don't know when but the world's gonna know you like I do. It took me 40 years but I published the book in 21 and now working on the film.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My dad taught me to treat everyone with respect and when you decide to do something give it your all give it 100 percent. He said if you want to be a garbage man when you grow up and that's what makes you happy then that's what you need to do just make sure you give it 100 percent. A customer who is a writer also told me just write what comes to you.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Treating people how you would want to be treated, smiling, being inviting, listening to what the customer wants, and being honest. I pay really close attention and ask a lot of questions before I just do whatever I want.
