Lourdes Vera is a seasoned commercial real estate and facilities management professional with more than 13 years of experience overseeing complex operations, building services, and client-focused solutions. Her career journey began in administrative and healthcare roles before an unexpected conversation with a friend encouraged her to explore real estate. Told that she had the personality, drive, and natural ability to succeed in sales and client relations, Lourdes took a leap of faith and accepted a brokerage assistant opportunity with JLL just weeks later. That pivotal career change became the foundation for a thriving career in commercial real estate and facilities management.
Today, Lourdes serves as a Senior Facilities Manager, where she leads a team of ten professionals and oversees day-to-day operations, budgeting, maintenance, vendor management, and facility performance for a large commercial portfolio. Throughout her career, she has steadily advanced through leadership roles in brokerage administration, client services, and facilities management, building a reputation for operational excellence, strong team leadership, and the ability to navigate complex challenges with professionalism and integrity. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being open to opportunities and willing to take chances. My career in real estate and facilities management began when a friend suggested that I would be a good fit for the industry, which ultimately led to a job offer from Jones Lang LaSalle. From that point forward, I remained committed to continuous learning, professional growth, and embracing new challenges.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to focus on solving problems rather than simply managing tasks. Approaching work with a problem-solving mindset allows me to create value, improve processes, and contribute more effectively to organizational success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to never stop learning and never allow your current situation to define your future. Stay curious, continue developing your skills, and remain open to new opportunities. Growth often comes from experiences and challenges that may not initially seem connected to your long-term goals.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is ensuring that major projects are completed on time while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines. Effective planning, communication, and teamwork are essential to keeping operations running smoothly and meeting organizational expectations.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are accountability, leadership, continuous improvement, and service. In my role as a senior facilities manager, I oversee office operations, maintenance, budgets, and a team of employees, all of which require a strong sense of responsibility and commitment. I believe in leading by example, supporting my team, and consistently striving for excellence in both my professional and personal life.
