Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lynn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of strong parental leadership and guidance, excellent mentors, my faith in Jesus Christ, and a passion for learning. My faith provides me with an unshakeable identity that enables me to lead with resilience and purpose. My parents instilled a strong work-ethic and value system that has served me well. Mentors provided me guidance at critical junctures in my life. Together, these have formed me into the woman and leader I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from the Bible: Proverbs 15:22 - "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed." No one knows everything, and we need one another to succeed. We must always have a listening ear to continue to learn and grow through the experiences and wisdom of others. That's why we were given two ears and one mouth - listen twice as much as you speak, if you want to succeed.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Surround yourself with women who are where you want to be. Learn from them, but also support them and give back in any way you can. Mentoring is a two-way street. Your mentor gives you their time and wisdom; you provide your mentor with respect, support, and whatever skills or knowledge you can contribute.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The world is changing faster than leaders can keep up. They need people who can come alongside and provide insights and guidance to ensure their organization is not just sustainable today, but is positioned for success in the future. Many consultants in the field can provide organizations with strategic planning and leadership support, but few have been trained as futurists and can provide strategic foresight elements to help organizations prepare to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate risks in advance. That is both a challenge and an opportunity in my field today.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation for my values and guides how I lead and serve. The four top values I hold dear are:

Integrity. I am true to myself and to my word. I fulfill my commitments, and live in alignment with my beliefs

Stewardship - I manage time, talents, and organizational resources as gifts entrusted by God, whether these are my own resources or those of the organizations I serve.

Faithfulness - I am faithful to my relationships, personal, professional, and spiritual. I do not breach trust in my interactions.

Learning - I strive to learn and grow daily so I can provide the best service and support to others.
