Her Story
About Lynn
Lynn Sholes is a self-employed writer and accomplished novelist based in Yankeetown, Florida, with a lifelong passion for storytelling and fiction. She began writing fiction during childhood and went on to publish her first historical novel, inspired by an archaeological discovery and set in pre-Columbian South Florida. The novel became a bestseller with Putnam Berkeley, establishing her as a recognized author. She later expanded her literary portfolio by co-authoring thrillers with Joe Moore before pursuing a solo career focused on domestic suspense. Her work reflects her interests in history, archaeology, suspense, and compelling character-driven storytelling.
Before dedicating herself fully to writing, Sholes built a career in education as an elementary school teacher and later served as a writing instructor who trained other educators in effective writing instruction. Her educational career included work in Broward County and the Crystal River area, allowing her to combine her expertise in teaching with her passion for written communication. She holds a B.A. in English Education from East Carolina University and has continued to apply her knowledge of language, education, and storytelling throughout her professional life.
Now retired from education, Sholes remains actively engaged in the literary community and continues to develop new writing projects. She leads a critique group for aspiring authors through the Florida Writers Association and is also a member of Mystery Writers of America and Thriller Writers. In addition to her writing and mentoring activities, she maintains a strong interest in amateur archaeology. Sholes encourages emerging writers to remain persistent through challenges, continually develop their craft, and take advantage of writing conferences and opportunities to connect with fellow authors and industry professionals.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the writing industry is simple: do it, and make the time for it. There is always time for something that truly matters to you, so prioritize your writing and keep moving forward, even when the process becomes difficult. When you encounter challenges, write through them rather than allowing them to stop you. I also strongly encourage attending writing conferences, as they were instrumental in my own development and taught me much of what I know about the craft and the publishing industry.
