Maride Dean knows what it feels like when the bottom drops out.

When the call center she worked at shut down and put 600 people out of work in a town of 30,000, she watched an entire community scramble to start over. What she discovered in that process never left her. Professional resume writing was expensive, inaccessible, and quietly keeping deserving people from opportunities they had already earned.

She decided to change that.

Maride founded Create Your Resume over 11 years ago with one clear conviction — that high-quality career support should not come with a price tag that puts it out of reach. Today she works with professionals at every level, from recent graduates finding their footing to seasoned executives making bold pivots, providing resume writing, LinkedIn profile optimization, cover letter development, and interview preparation entirely remotely.

What sets her apart is where she has stood. Maride spent years on the hiring side of the table, conducting interviews, reviewing hundreds of resumes, and making real decisions in high-volume environments. She knows what gets a resume past an ATS. More importantly, she knows what makes a human being stop scrolling and pay attention.

Her greatest satisfaction is not the finished document. It is the moment a client stops underestimating themselves. Many of the professionals she works with do not fully see what they bring to the table — and helping them recognize their own value is work she considers genuinely meaningful.

Maride holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rasmussen University and is currently pursuing her MBA at the same institution, where she maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

Persistence. Not the polished, motivational-poster kind. The quiet, unglamorous kind that keeps you going when life pulls your attention in every direction at once.

There were seasons when CYR was not my only focus. Other work, other demands, other chapters of life that required everything I had. But I never let the business go dark. I kept the website active. I never turned anyone away. I kept it in my sights even when it was not in the spotlight.

That commitment — to the work and to the people who needed it — is what carried Create Your Resume to where it stands today. Success, for me, has never been about a perfect straight line. It has been about refusing to let something meaningful become a lost project.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from my father, a small business owner and entrepreneur who built things with his hands and his persistence for as long as I can remember.

He never dressed it up. He just said: one foot in front of the other. Do not stop stepping forward.

It sounds simple. It is not. That advice has carried me through every difficult season in business — the slow months, the moments of doubt, the times life demanded my attention elsewhere. You do not need to sprint. You do not need a perfect plan. You just need to keep moving.

Eleven years later, that is still the principle behind everything I do at Create Your Resume. And it is what I quietly pass on to every client who shows up feeling stuck.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do not let the stereotypes define the role before you even step into it.

There is a persistent image of what a woman in career services or administrative work is supposed to look like — the multitasker, the organizer, the person who smiles at everyone and asks for nothing. That image is a cage. You are not required to live in it.

You are allowed to bring your full self and your full capabilities to this work. You are allowed to have opinions, expertise, and authority. You do not have to fit into a narrow definition of what people expect from you just because that expectation has existed for a long time.

The women who make the most impact in this industry are not the ones who conformed. They are the ones who refused to be placeholders.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in career services right now is also its biggest opportunity: AI has changed everything, and most people do not yet understand how.

Job seekers are using AI to write their resumes. Employers are using AI to screen them. The result is a flood of documents that are technically optimized and completely forgettable. They pass the algorithm and lose the human.

That is where the real work lives. Anyone can stuff a resume with keywords. Very few people know how to make a document that clears the ATS and still reads like a person worth hiring. That gap — between optimization and authenticity — is exactly where skilled career professionals prove their value.

The opportunity is enormous for those willing to stay ahead of it. The challenge is that too many in this industry are either ignoring AI entirely or surrendering to it. Neither serves the client.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency. In an industry full of overinflated promises and predatory pricing, I believe the most radical thing I can offer a client is honesty.

I am straightforward about what professional career services can and cannot do. A well-crafted resume positions your experience powerfully — it does not guarantee you a job or an interview. I will never tell you otherwise. I will not claim I am working with hundreds of executives every month or make promises designed to close a sale rather than serve a person.

This matters because the people who come to me are often in vulnerable moments. They are between jobs, starting over, or investing money they cannot easily spare into their own future. That is not a transaction. That is trust. And I take it seriously.

Honest pricing. Honest expectations. Honest work. That is what Create Your Resume is built on.
