Her Story

About Marisa

Marisa Horn is a New York-based entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of CliqFit, a gamified fitness platform designed to make movement more social, competitive, rewarding, and accessible. Inspired by her own experience walking throughout Manhattan, Marisa saw an opportunity to transform everyday movement into something people could genuinely look forward to by combining fitness, games, friendly competition, real rewards, and community in one experience.

CliqFit appeals to a wide range of users across different age groups and fitness levels, offering new ways to make staying active fun and motivating. Through tournament-style step, calorie, and mileage challenges, users can compete for real money and rewards. They can also challenge friends to a fitness bingo game, compete to complete their boards, and play FitSix, CliqFit’s Wordle-inspired fitness game. Rather than focusing solely on traditional workouts, CliqFit encourages people to stay active through everyday movement and gives them more reasons to keep going.

At the heart of Marisa’s vision is community. CliqFit’s Community Board provides a welcoming and supportive space where members can share photos and daily progress, celebrate accomplishments, encourage one another, and connect around a shared goal of living a healthier, more active life. Marisa’s goal is to create an environment where people feel comfortable and supported while still being able to challenge themselves and enjoy healthy competition.

With a professional background in sales, account management, CRM, and startup operations, Marisa brings experience in relationship-building, technology, and business development to her work as an entrepreneur. Her background has helped shape her approach to building CliqFit around its users and creating an experience that makes fitness feel more personal, engaging, and connected.

Marisa believes fitness should be part of everyday life, not something people think about only when a problem arises. Her long-term vision is for CliqFit to become a home base for health and movement, where friends, families, coworkers, and individuals at every stage of their wellness journey can connect, compete, celebrate progress, and motivate one another to keep moving.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Marisa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to persistence, passion, and a genuine desire to help people. Building CliqFit has taught me that success isn’t about having every answer from the beginning. It’s about believing in your vision, staying committed through challenges, being willing to learn and adapt, and continuing to move forward even when the path is uncertain.

My strengths in relationship-building, collaboration, customer engagement, and strategic thinking have also played an important role. I’ve always valued connecting with people and understanding what motivates them, and that has directly influenced the way I’m building CliqFit. I want to create something people genuinely enjoy using and a community they feel excited and comfortable being part of.

Most importantly, I’m passionate about the purpose behind CliqFit. I believe fitness can be fun, social, competitive, and rewarding without feeling intimidating. For me, success is about more than building a business. It’s about creating something that can positively impact people’s everyday lives and motivate them to keep moving.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is, “Make this your baby. Make it your life.” It taught me that turning an idea into something meaningful requires deep commitment, belief, and ownership. As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned to keep showing up, especially when things are difficult, stay focused on my purpose, and continuously improve what I’m building. When you truly believe in your mission, that commitment gives you the motivation to keep moving forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to pursue what you’re passionate about and don’t wait until you feel completely ready. Start where you are, use what you have, ask questions, and be willing to learn along the way. Drive can’t be taught, so if something truly matters to you, take the initiative, embrace opportunities, and give yourself permission to grow into them.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity in fitness technology is making healthy movement feel less like a chore and more like something people genuinely enjoy. Through CliqFit, I’m focused on using gamification, social connection, competition, and rewards to make fitness more engaging and accessible for people at all levels. The challenge is continuing to create technology that brings people together while remaining inclusive, authentic, enjoyable, and effective in helping people build lasting healthy habits.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and compassion are the values that guide me in both my work and personal life. I believe in building things that genuinely help people while creating an environment centered on encouragement, connection, and inclusivity. For me, meaningful success is measured by the positive impact I make—whether through CliqFit, supporting my community, or helping others feel healthier, stronger, and more connected.
