Her Story

About Mary

I started student teaching in 2009 at Winston Elementary and got my licensure in 2010. I taught at several schools in North Carolina before moving to Dubai and Abu Dhabi where I worked at the International Community School of Abu Dhabi and Toddler Town British Nursery, building a special education program. After returning, I joined St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School and then the Math and Science Academy of Apex in 2022 as kindergarten teacher, then first grade team lead, and now Assistant Principal of Academics for K-4 while also running the Beginning Teachers Program and special education.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mary

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You have to give your whole heart and your love of what you do will shine through. Teaching is a vocation, not a profession. You are going to give a lot of yourself but the rewards are great in the end.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Hard work, being transparent, working alongside your team to earn trust and be a better leader.
