Her Story

About Mawusse

Mawusse Yann serves as a writer-journalist for The Borgin Project, a nonprofit organization lobbying lawmakers to support bills benefiting the most vulnerable populations around the world. Her career began in marketing and advertising in her home country, where she worked for six years prior to immigrating to the United States as a refugee. After arriving, she returned to school and earned a bachelor's degree in public relations from DePaul University in 2021 while beginning a master's program in public relations and corporate communication at Georgetown University in 2022. In her current role, she writes articles, interviews professionals in the nonprofit sector, and assists with fundraising efforts. Yann is also an author whose book, which addresses natural disasters, human calamities, and wars, recently earned her a writing prize. She draws inspiration from her own experiences growing up in a country affected by war. Additional professional affiliations include membership in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and presidential membership in the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). She has volunteered with SEED in Uganda for four years and is fluent in French and English.
