Her Interview
Ten minutes with Meagan
01What do you attribute your success to?
I’ve always had a natural curiosity, and I genuinely love what I get to do. I love digital media, I love marketing — it all feels like a puzzle to me. What excites me most is that no two days are ever the same. I come in every day not knowing exactly what to expect, and I thrive in that environment.
That passion is a huge driving force behind much of the success I’ve had, but I also credit a lot of it to my upbringing and my parents. They always pushed my brothers and me toward excellence — not in the sense that we always had to come in first or win the gold medal, but in the sense that we should give our absolute best in whatever we chose to do. If we knew we had truly done our best, then that was enough, and we could trust that it would take us as far as we were meant to go.
That mindset has stayed with me throughout my career. I bring a natural curiosity and passion into my work every single day, and I approach it with the goal of doing the absolute best I can — not just for myself, but for my teams as well. From a very young age, my brothers and I were taught that success is not always about being first place; sometimes, if you consistently give your all and do the best you can, you’ll get there anyway. And no matter the outcome, knowing you gave everything you had is always enough.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The best piece of advice I could offer is to never underestimate the power of networking, and to raise your hand for everything. I was always the type of person where if there was a gap, or they needed somebody to volunteer, I was always the first person to raise my hand. I wanted to know, at the very least, how everything worked. One of the things that makes me better at what I get to do every day is that I understand how all the different pieces fit together, whether they are part of my scope or not. While I might not own brand marketing, I understand the impact that it has on what I do own.
And networking - I definitely believe that a lot of my success is predicated on the fact that I formed relationships with people. There were opportunities that I was given that, in my mind, I'm like, I have no business doing this. But somebody liked me and thought that I was capable. It takes one person to believe that you can do something for them to push you in the direction where you can really make a difference.
I'm driven by being a catalyst for change, and you need the support of others to help drive the level of change that oftentimes is necessary to achieve a certain level of success. Relationships have always been absolutely paramount to me in every role that I've been in.
