Her Story
About Megan
Megan Damato serves as the Director of Risk Management for the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut, and Greenwich Public Schools, a role she has held for nearly a decade after joining the town’s legal department in 2015. She is the first woman to hold this position in Greenwich, overseeing municipal and school insurance programs, claims management, policy renewals, and emergency preparedness coordination. Her work focuses on balancing operational needs with risk mitigation across both government and education systems, requiring steady coordination with internal departments, insurers, and external partners. Before transitioning into public-sector risk management, Megan built a legal career in Connecticut after earning her Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 2005 and passing the bar exam in 2006. She practiced in areas including insurance defense, family law, guardian ad litem work, and contract disputes, and later worked within the Greenwich legal department. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Connecticut, completed in 2002, which reflects an early interest in people-centered systems and development. Megan is active in the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA), where she is a member and serves on the board of the Connecticut chapter, including leadership roles such as president and vice president. In 2021, she received PRIMA’s Public Risk Manager of the Year Award, becoming the first recipient from Connecticut. She is known for a leadership style described as firm but kind, and she emphasizes relationship-building, mentorship, and reducing isolation within the profession. Outside of work, she is a single mother to two boys, enjoys hockey and soccer, a lifelong connection that includes playing boys’ ice hockey in high school due to the absence of a girls’ team, and she is involved in community support efforts such as the Monroe Parents Council and St. Jude-related initiatives.
