Co-Owner
South Coast Sisters, LLC
Danbury, TX 77534

Melissa Davis is an accounting and operations professional with over 11 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and financial administration. She is also Co-Owner of South Coast Sisters, LLC, a commercial and residential leasing company she operates with her sister, honoring her father’s legacy through the continuation of a part of the family business name. She most recently served as Lead Billing and Payroll Specialist at Service Transport Company, where she managed high-volume invoicing, payroll for complex logistics operations, and end-to-end billing processes. Her expertise spans contract billing, vendor negotiations, discrepancy resolution, and ERP-based financial systems, with a strong reputation for accuracy, efficiency, and process improvement in fast-paced environments.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Melissa expanded her professional experience through temporary assignments while balancing homeschooling her five children and continuing her accounting studies. Through Robert Half, she worked with the City of Galveston in Human Resources, gaining exposure to personnel records and public service operations, including collaboration with firefighters, police officers, and dispatch teams. She later accepted what began as a one-week logistics assignment that evolved into a five-year tenure, where she developed deep expertise in dispatch coordination, driver pay structures, rating, billing, and customer relations. Working closely with key mentors, including Ana Lozano and terminal manager Tom Hodges, she refined her understanding of transportation operations from the ground up. Melissa thrives in fast-paced, detail-heavy environments, where she is known for her adaptability, organization, and strong multitasking abilities. She attributes part of her success to her ability to manage complex workflows simultaneously and maintain structure across multiple responsibilities. Looking ahead, her long-term goal is to become a freight broker, building on her extensive logistics and billing experience to expand into brokerage and transportation management.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my father. I never saw him quit even when things were hard, he just became tougher.

I thrive in fast-paced environments and I'm a natural multitasker. Everything I do is extremely organized - I have multiple folders, and when you go into one specific folder, it has seven more folders inside. It's just so much easier to find things that way, and you don't have to specially name things because everything is organized by category. This organizational system and my ability to adapt quickly makes me have an advantage. I love change because that's how you learn - when others say they don't like change, I say teach me, I love it, teach me all of it. My ability to pay really close attention to details, like how dispatch inputs affect driver pay, and my willingness to become proficient in all aspects of a business rather than just my assigned role, has been key to my success.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Job market and cost of living.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me is making my kids proud and watching them achieve their goals. When I received the email about being featured, I screenshotted it to my daughters and started to cry, telling them 'I just want to make y'all proud.' My hobby is literally being a mom and watching my children achieve their goals. Everything I do is for them - I even bought a smaller house and moved to a different area because my kids wanted to move home after their father and I got divorced. I told my oldest daughter to quit her job making $2.13 an hour at a cafe so she could focus on her FFA leadership role, because I wanted her to be a kid again and focus on opportunities that matter. I'm also committed to continuing my father's legacy through South Coast Sisters LLC, keeping his business name as close as possible by changing it from South Coast Interest to South Coast Sisters. Family, legacy, and being there for the people I love are what drive everything I do.
