Her Story

About Melodie

Melodie Lopes has spent more than thirty years building a distinguished career in industrial sales, earning a reputation as a knowledgeable and dependable professional who blends technical fluency with genuine care for her clients. An early fascination with how things worked led her to study electronics engineering at ITT Technical Institute before the program closed, and she later returned to complete her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Science and Leadership from North Greenville University in 2018. That pairing of technical grounding and business insight has become the hallmark of her approach, equipping her to navigate an industry that constantly demands both analytical precision and strong interpersonal skill.

Currently serving as an Account Executive specializing in instrumentation, valves, and pressure gauges, Melodie has also spent years working with motors, pumps, drives, servos, and automation systems across a range of companies, giving her a broad and versatile command of industrial products and solutions. Her days are filled with client communication, facility visits, and hands-on evaluation of equipment, all aimed at crafting solutions tailored to each customer's specific challenges. She views obstacles such as shifting delivery timelines not as setbacks but as opportunities to demonstrate patience, flexibility, and clear communication, principles she credits with helping her earn the trust of clients throughout her career.

At the heart of Melodie's professional philosophy is the belief that listening well matters more than speaking often, a lesson passed down by her father that has shaped both her career and her personal life. She brings that same spirit of encouragement to the next generation of women entering technical and industrial fields, urging them to stay resilient, ambitious, and open to learning while surrounding themselves with mentors who lift them up. Recognized in 2026 as a featured honoree in Influential Women magazine representing Simpsonville, South Carolina, Melodie continues to balance her professional dedication with a full personal life rooted in family, self-care, and the simple joy of meaningful relationships.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Melodie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I credit my success to the influence of my family, including two grandfathers who worked as engineers and a father who built a career in sales, which gave me an early appreciation for both technical thinking and relationship-driven work. Beyond that foundation, I believe persistence, adaptability, and a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving have carried me through three decades in this industry. My children have also been a constant source of motivation, pushing me to keep growing both personally and professionally.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've ever received is to listen more than I speak. My father used to remind us growing up that we were given two ears and one mouth for a reason. If you don't truly listen, you'll miss something important, so rather than jumping in because you're afraid of forgetting a thought, it's better to pause, take out a pen and paper, and write it down instead.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to embrace the industry for what it is, because it's a different world out there and you will be challenged. Develop tough skin, stay ambitious, and commit to excelling and continuously learning. It's also important to lean on the people who genuinely want to help you succeed, rather than those who try to put you down.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Supply and demand remain a constant challenge, particularly with the long lead times involved in sourcing what clients need. Overcoming this requires finding the right avenues to help clients reach their goals despite these obstacles. One of the biggest keys to success is truly understanding each client's process, which comes down to asking the right questions and taking the time to listen.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Relationships matter most to me, whether in business or in my personal life. Building strong relationships means genuinely understanding people and identifying their true needs. Outside of work, I place real value on spending time with family and friends, along with practicing self-care and self-love to maintain balance.
