Her Interview
Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my diverse professional journey, from managing hotels and salons since 2012 to launching my cleaning company in 2018, which expanded significantly during COVID-19. I am especially proud of becoming a scalable entrepreneur and developing DoHub, a platform designed to bring multiple services together while empowering female entrepreneurs. My education and professional training in Jamaica and Canada, including certifications in computerized accounting and an associate degree in management accounting, have also played an important role in my growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to learn from strong mentors and be inspired by those who have built meaningful careers, including Oprah Winfrey and Trisha Bailey. Their examples have encouraged me to keep growing, think bigger and turn my ideas into action, which has also inspired me to develop DoHub as a platform that brings my business services together.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women is to remember that your starting point does not define your destination. No matter where your journey begins, with determination, perseverance and a willingness to grow, you can build a successful business and create the future you envision.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities I see as a business owner is gaining the right exposure to grow my brand and reach new audiences. Increasing visibility can create opportunities to expand my services, build stronger connections and achieve greater success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are service, leadership and inspiring others through my story and experiences. I am proud of the recognition I received as a market leader at Payless Shoe Stores, including a President’s Club Award, as well as a service award during my time at Hilton Garden Inn. Giving back is also deeply important to me, which is why I have volunteered with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and United Way.
