Her Story
About Michelle
I've wanted to be in news since I was a child, and I've been working toward this goal my entire life. After seven years in retail management to afford college tuition, I finally graduated and stepped into the news industry as a multimedia journalist, doing everything from camera work to editing, writing, and going on air. I was then promoted to an anchor role before moving to Texas in 2022 for my current position. Now I co-anchor our morning show with my husband, whom I met in a newsroom and have worked alongside my entire career. My day starts at 2 AM, and I'm at the station by 3 AM to prepare for our two-hour show that runs from 5 to 7 AM. After the show, I go out to do reporting, and I still love doing my own camera work and editing. I run two segments I'm particularly proud of: Veterans in Focus, where I dedicate time every week to feature our military community and the resources available to them, and Coastal Bend Weekend, highlighting events and activities in our region. My work with veterans was recognized with an Emmy in 2024 for a story I shot, wrote, and edited myself. I thrive on positive news and community outreach, and if somebody has something positive they're doing or they're giving back, I will always make time to highlight that. Outside of my news career, I compete in NPC amateur bikini bodybuilding and work as a videographer for Center Podium, a bodybuilding company, traveling to shows around the world.

Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I consider myself always a work in progress. I think the fact that I'm always determined to keep getting better and better is what drives me. It sometimes seems like I'm never satisfied with what I've done even now, and I think that's what it is - just the drive to continuously get better and better in everything that I do, whether it is in the fitness space with my bodybuilding journey, or here in my career. There are still times where I'll look at a story that I do, and I'll say, I could have done it like this, or this way, or fixed it this way. We do work in a very subjective field, but I do believe I am my harshest critic, so a lot of times, if it appears like I'm successful, it's probably because I'm being hard on myself.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
There are probably two pieces of advice that stand out to me. The first is more mentally motivational: believe in yourself. When I was younger, I didn't have too much confidence, but as I grow and develop skills, I've been learning that I am capable of doing things if I really set my mind to it. The second is more technical. Somebody once told me to shoot with intention, and I think just being able to use intention and that kind of mindset in every aspect of my life, of doing things intentionally, was a really big game changer for me when I started to think of it that way. In the fitness space too, that intention really makes sense, because when you are training for a bodybuilding show, you don't just want to check boxes. Sometimes there are days where you do have to just check the boxes and just get the job done, but when you're doing things with intention, it could really make a difference that stands out.
