Her Story

About Michelle

I worked in social services for 25 years, where I helped people manage their lives - helping them with doctor's appointments, substance abuse, court cases, and housing. I pretty much helped them make their lives. I transitioned into management and consulting when my daughter became an artist and I saw how people try to take advantage of artists. I started working with my daughter, and that led me to where I'm at right now. I've been in marketing and consulting for about 4 years, but only formally advertising it for about a year. Now I help people just the same, just in a different manner. I help them review their contracts, make sure they're not going into bad contracts, and make sure what they're doing is good for their image. I currently manage 3 artists, a number of content creators, and a designer. I do all of their pitch decks, all of their paperwork, pitch them for sponsors and investors, and put together events. People also call me for consulting on events - I guide them on how to do it, how to make money, and how to put the event together.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Unfortunately, this industry is a male-dominated industry, and it's not really easy for women to make their way in this industry. You don't give up, you have to keep pushing, you have to keep finding a way. Just like when one door closes, another one opens, and you just have to find the door that's gonna open the right way, the way you need it to open. I've seen a lot of men try to take advantage of their position and offer women things because they're in the position, but they want something in return. That's never the way to go. Always stand your ground, always remain professional, and never allow anyone to try to dictate or tell you what you can or what you cannot do, because you'll make it either way if you keep pushing forward.
