Weston: Hi, my name's Michelle Weston, and being an influential woman is a very credible way, I believe, to bring meaning to what we're doing so that our clients and our customers see that we have the knowledge and the background, and even the recognition required to help guide them through some of the toughest times that they faced. There're awesome times with technology really at the forefront. Gen AI, AI, as we hear, is really growing very pervasive all over the clients' environments, and sometimes they're not really sure what their risk might be the risk portfolio or what in fact the ROI is on a lot of these initiatives because they're popping up all over their organizations. What I specialize in at ISG is coming in and really asking some of the basic yet pretty tough to answer questions around, Do you know what AI you have in the environment? Not just the bigger initiatives, but where there's co-pilot agents or other types of open AI being leveraged inside of your organization that may in fact be reaching the public internet, creating risk that you're unaware of. Also, not measuring the value that your organization is getting from AI. Certainly executives know that they need to be leveraging AI, but they're also really wanting someone very credible and trustworthy to come in and help them govern these solutions so that they get the most out of it, and it's deliberate, linked to a plan. That's what I specialize in, and I'd love to speak to you more about it. Thank you for listening. What's one piece of advice you would give to younger women chasing their dreams?Michelle L. Weston: Hi, Michelle Weston again. This time, I want to talk to you about what advice should we be giving to younger women who are chasing their career dreams. I'm here to tell you. Trust is the most important quality that you need to bring. That way, people will go to you, come to you, and invite you in to more and more opportunities because they know that even if you have never done a particular task or project type of work, they know that they can trust you to figure it out and that you will raise your hand when you need help. They're there to help you. They want you to be successful, but they need to know that they can trust you and when you prove that you're trustworthy. You will be called upon and your career will grow and grow and grow. That happened to me. I was a very young woman and just married, having a baby, very young, and I was so blessed to have my first job be in the state of Indiana in a mainframe data center where I became an operator. So I started at the very, some would say bottom, although I met a lot of nice people that were operators in data centers. My responsibilities grew and grew because executives learned they could trust me. So they gave me projects that I had never led before, but I was able to do them successfully because I built strong teams around me. That knew they could trust me. Trust me to give them opportunities to show what they could do, but also to help them remove roadblocks so that together we could succeed. So that's an example of where just seeing how your personality, your character traits, portray someone who is very transparent, very honest, right? You have to be honest in order for people to be able to trust you. Sometimes, trust is not just given because of a title or a role. People expect you to earn it. So walk the talk, be trustworthy. And your career will grow. I promise you it will.

Her Interview
Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to building strong relationships and always following through on my commitments. Doing what I say I'm going to do builds trust, and trust creates opportunities. My background in customer service has also taught me the importance of understanding clients' needs and delivering an exceptional experience, which is something I genuinely enjoy.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to never sell just to meet a number. Instead, focus on whether the solution is truly the right fit and adds real value for the client. When you lead with integrity and put the customer's needs first, the results—and the opportunities—will come back to you many times over.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to choose a career path that aligns with your strengths and interests, whether that's technical, leadership, or sales. Be passionate about what you do, stay curious, and invest time in learning about the companies and opportunities available to you. The more prepared and knowledgeable you are, the more confident you'll be and the greater your potential for success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in my field is ensuring that everyone is aligned on the goals they are trying to achieve before implementing a solution. Success comes from understanding the client's objectives, identifying the right strategy to meet those needs, and working together to reach a fair and mutually beneficial agreement. When there is alignment, trust, and a solution that delivers real value, everyone wins.
