About Mikayla
Mikayla Agius is a human resources and talent acquisition professional at United Wholesale Mortgage, where she currently serves as a Talent Acquisition Specialist and Talent Trainer. She began her career at UWM in an operations role shortly after high school and progressed through positions in operations, benefits administration, talent acquisition, and training. Her career progression reflects a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, professional development, and continuous improvement.
In her current role, Mikayla combines talent acquisition expertise with employee training and development. She has experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, new-hire processes, benefits administration, employee mobility, auditing, and process improvement. In March 2025, she stepped into a Talent Trainer role and subsequently became a UWM Certified Training Professional, expanding her responsibilities into corporate training and learner development. She values opportunities to improve processes, develop new skills, and support the growth of fellow team members.
Mikayla approaches her career with an emphasis on learning from challenges and using acquired knowledge to help others. She credits mentorship, particularly guidance from Chloe Stark, with reinforcing the importance of earning respect through knowledge and experience rather than position. She values honesty and integrity and recognizes the importance of balancing compassion for employees facing difficult circumstances with appropriate professional boundaries. Outside of work, she contributes to her community by volunteering at the American Dream nursing home, where she assists senior residents.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to learning from every difficulty I encounter and using those experiences as opportunities to help others. Once I have worked through an obstacle and gained a better understanding of it, I can use that knowledge to support and teach someone else.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is that every difficulty I overcome can become an opportunity to teach and support someone else. My mentor, Chloe Stark, taught me that respect comes from what you know and the value you bring, rather than simply from your position or title.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to always raise their hands for opportunities to learn new skills or contribute in unfamiliar areas. Continuing to learn and grow is essential to building a strong career. I believe you should keep saying yes to opportunities that allow you to develop, gain experience, and expand your understanding.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in human resources is finding the right balance between genuinely caring about people and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. When someone is experiencing hardship, I believe it is important to identify resources and provide meaningful support while also managing my own emotions and keeping the focus on how I can help them professionally.

The values that are most important to me are honesty and integrity. I believe these values should guide how I interact with people, make decisions, and approach my responsibilities both professionally and personally.
