Her Interview
Ten minutes with Miriah
01What do you attribute your success to?
100% good mentorship and a good software community. Having people with varied expertise to ask questions and get help with outside of work has been the difference maker.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Not to get a master's degree in computer science. You can get all that knowledge practically without spending the money, and practical building is a better experience than formalized degrees.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You're always going to feel a little bit isolated, expect it. Don't be scared to ask questions because the difference of opinion brings value. Find something you like doing that you're good at and stick to it for tangible validation and morale.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is learning fundamentals and reasoning behind AI as businesses value it less and there's lack of support for learning new skills at work. The opportunity is a surge in need for subject matter experts in distributed systems, databases, networking and architectures.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity in data accuracy and validation. Humility through disagreement and commitment, and holding strong opinions loosely to adapt to changing technology.
