Her Story
About Misty
Throughout my career, I've been a Jill of all trades, working across many different industries and roles. I've done telecommunications, collections, receptionist work, and administrative assistant positions. I've also worked as a manager at Subway, which I actually enjoyed, and even bartended when I was younger. Since 2019, I've been working as an administrative assistant, most recently on the clerical side of the construction industry on a part-time basis until this past March. One of my proudest accomplishments was helping Mike Deloach during COVID when he needed to downsize his business. I helped him transfer everything from paper files to computer and into QuickBooks, which really set him up to manage things more independently. Customer service has been the common thread throughout all my work, and it's definitely my main strength. I'm currently looking for new opportunities and have a goal to start my own food truck business serving sandwiches and salads, possibly parking near the refineries in Lake Charles. I'm also 7 years in recovery from addiction, which I consider a major achievement because before you help yourself, you can't help anyone.

Ten minutes with Misty
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to my daughters and being a parent. I just want to be a good mom, and I want them to follow my footsteps in a good way. But I also have to say that my recovery from addiction is my main attribute. I've been in recovery for 7 years now, and that's really the foundation of everything because before you help yourself, you can't help anyone. That journey has shaped who I am today and how I approach everything in my life.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering the administrative assistant field to thoroughly look at their education and know what they're going in for. No one explained to me that my certification was just for QuickBooks and Microsoft Office. I thought I was going for something way more, like a legal secretary position, and they didn't explain that to me. So my advice is to really look into it and make sure that you get the right degree or certification for what you actually want to do. Check out the education programs carefully before you commit so you know exactly what you're getting.
