Her Story

About Monika

Monika Pawlus is the Owner and Co-Founder of Maximum Freight Logistics, a Houston-area third-party logistics company launched in 2024. Serving the construction, industrial, manufacturing, energy, and oil and gas sectors, Maximum Freight Logistics provides transportation solutions for heavy equipment, machinery, materials, and other critical freight. Pawlus is actively involved in the company's day-to-day operations, business development, strategic growth, and customer relationships, with a strong focus on operational excellence and building long-term partnerships.

Pawlus brings a diverse background in consumer and pharmaceutical advertising, publishing, sales strategy, compliance, forecasting, training, product management, and strategic planning to the logistics industry. She began her professional career in advertising with BBDO in New York City, where she was quickly promoted to a media planner role. There, she developed a strong interest in metrics, analytics, planning, and especially the art of negotiation. She later moved into pharmaceutical advertising, taking on various leadership roles, consulting directly for a major pharmaceutical company, and leading projects and initiatives that helped shape her career while building a uniquely diverse skill set. She later spent nine years with a major publishing company in sales strategy and product management roles, working extensively with pharmaceutical companies and developing expertise in sales enablement, training, compliance, forecasting, and strategic planning.

Her experience across highly regulated industries, sales strategy, and business development has shaped her approach to logistics: understanding the customer's business, solving problems strategically, and executing with consistency. She is particularly focused on serving companies that value responsive communication, reliable transportation solutions, and a logistics partner who understands that freight is an important part of their larger business operation.

Pawlus also leads Maximum Freight Logistics' educational and industry-focused content initiatives, including Truckin' Talk. The company's content explores the people, innovations, history, and ideas that have shaped the trucking and logistics industry, along with industry-specific topics designed to provide practical insights and help shippers and carriers grow their businesses.

In 2023, Pawlus also launched Brilliance Coaching & Consulting, a professional development business featuring self-directed Skill Sprints and Micro Skill Sprints designed to help leaders, managers, and small businesses develop targeted skills and strengthen their performance. Through Brilliance, she applies her experience in branding, business strategy, sales, marketing, and leadership development to help individuals and businesses build stronger foundations for sustainable growth. Her current focus includes specialized packages for Montgomery County, Texas businesses and companies within the logistics industry.

Pawlus holds a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with a concentration in Advertising and Public Relations. She has also earned professional certifications in marketing, coaching, and personal finance, and her work under the Brilliance umbrella has received recognition through the Digital Health Awards.

At the heart of Pawlus' work is a simple belief: when businesses thrive, we all have the opportunity to grow and win together. She is passionate about helping businesses turn strategic vision into measurable growth and strengthening the businesses and industries that support their employees, customers, and communities.

Outside of her professional work, Pawlus is a dedicated mom to her daughter and is deeply involved in animal welfare, with a particular passion for helping dogs in need.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Monika

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong work ethic, a supportive family, and, perhaps most importantly, the optimism and confidence they instilled in me from an early age. My parents and family were loving, encouraging, and supportive, while also encouraging me to be independent and successful. They gave me a strong foundation and the confidence to believe in myself, pursue opportunities, take risks, and challenge myself. That foundation allowed me to approach difficult or unfamiliar challenges with a healthy dose of ambition, optimism, and grit, always believing that there was a path forward and that a successful outcome was possible.

I've also found tremendous motivation throughout my career in solving problems and seeing the impact of that work extend beyond myself. When a solution creates success for a team, helps a customer achieve their goals, or moves a business forward, everyone involved has an opportunity to benefit. That has always made me want to push harder, find better solutions, and keep growing.

In this chapter of my career, my business partner, Anthony, has played a huge role in my success. We built Maximum Freight Logistics together, and I don't view our accomplishments as mine or his individually. We are a team, and every success is our success. We bring very different but highly complementary strengths to the business. Anthony has more than 20 years of experience in the logistics industry, and his knowledge is vast, deeply rooted, and ingrained in him. He brings an incredible depth of industry and operational knowledge, while I bring my experience in strategy, sales, business development, communication, and working across highly regulated industries. Together, those strengths have allowed us to approach the business from different perspectives, challenge each other's thinking, and build something neither of us would have built in quite the same way on our own.

Ultimately, I believe professional success and personal success are interconnected. When we help the people and businesses around us succeed, we all have the opportunity to grow and win together. My family gave me the foundation to believe I could succeed, and the people I've had the privilege of building alongside have helped me turn that confidence, optimism, and grit into meaningful growth and progress.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to learn as much as possible, ask thoughtful questions, and position myself around people who have the knowledge and experience I am seeking. Being intentional about learning from people who have already traveled the path I want to follow has allowed me to gain insights that would have taken years to develop on my own. It has also taught me the value of being curious, listening closely, and to never stop learning and asking!

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Only take advice from people you respect and who are succeeding in the area of expertise you are seeking to develop. Experience is valuable, but I believe the person giving you advice should also demonstrate the kind of success, character, and results you aspire to achieve.

I would also encourage young women to become exceptional communicators. Communication is becoming a lost art, but it remains critical to success. Be proactive in your communication. Be clear, be concise, and be well informed. Don't make people guess what you need, what you mean, or what you are trying to accomplish. Strong communication builds trust, creates opportunities, and sets you apart.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in logistics right now is maintaining integrity and trust across a highly fragmented industry. There are businesses and carriers that don't operate with the level of transparency and accountability that customers deserve, which makes due diligence, verification, and ongoing risk management increasingly important. That can require significant time and resources, but I believe protecting the integrity of the supply chain is essential to building long-term relationships and a sustainable business.

At the same time, I see significant opportunities for growth. Increasing trade activity with Mexico and continued investment in U.S. infrastructure are creating demand across the transportation and logistics sector. Emerging reconstruction and infrastructure initiatives in regions such as Venezuela could also generate substantial freight activity through U.S. ports and into domestic supply chains. For a Texas-based logistics company, these trends are worth watching closely because they can create opportunities for construction, industrial, energy, and other sectors we already serve.

Ultimately, I believe the companies that will be best positioned for growth are those that combine strong operational execution with integrity, responsiveness, and a genuine understanding of their customers' businesses.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is the most important value to me, both in my work and personal life. I believe in being transparent and communicating openly, even when the truth may be difficult or uncomfortable to hear. I would always rather know the worst-case scenario and understand exactly what I am dealing with than be misled or have important information withheld.

I value trust, accountability, and straightforward communication, and I strive to extend those same principles to the people I work with and the people in my personal life. I believe that you can work through almost any challenge when everyone has the information they need and is willing to communicate honestly. For me, integrity is about complete transparency and creating relationships where people know they can trust what you say and count on you to do what you say you'll do.
