Her Interview
Ten minutes with Monique
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my passion for helping others, my personal experiences, and my determination to turn challenges into opportunities for growth. Caring for my aunt, grandmother, and father inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, beginning as a caregiver before transitioning into healthcare administration and eventually earning my nursing home administrator credentials. Over the past seven years, I have built my career around compassionate leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to providing quality care. One of my proudest achievements was helping my current facility earn the Bronze Award for excellence in care, which reflects the collective dedication of our team. Beyond healthcare, I founded Her Vision to empower and support individuals navigating difficult life transitions, and I am expanding that mission through writing, speaking engagements, and children's books. Ultimately, I believe my success comes from staying true to my purpose, remaining committed to continuous growth, and using my experiences to inspire and uplift others.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received comes from my faith in God, my mother, and the mentors who have supported me throughout my journey. I believe that when God places a vision in your heart, you should have the courage and determination to pursue it, even when the path becomes difficult. My mother has always encouraged me to embrace opportunities and believe in my potential, and her unwavering support has played a significant role in my accomplishments. I am also grateful to the administrator who served as my preceptor and guided me through the challenges of becoming a nursing home administrator. Even when I faced setbacks while preparing for and taking the required examination, my mentor encouraged me to keep going and reminded me not to give up on my goals. These experiences have taught me the importance of faith, perseverance, mentorship, and surrounding myself with people who genuinely believe in me. I also value the women who have supported me through different seasons of my life, and I strive to offer that same encouragement to others. My advice is to trust your vision, remain persistent through challenges, and surround yourself with people who inspire you to grow, because sometimes their belief in you helps you recognize what you are capable of achieving.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering healthcare administration is to never give up on the vision you have for your life, and never allow someone else’s doubts to determine what you believe you can achieve. Throughout my journey, I have encountered people who questioned whether I was ready to become an administrator, but I chose to focus on those who encouraged me and believed in my potential. I faced setbacks, including challenges with passing my administrator examination, but I continued trying until I reached my goal. One of the most rewarding moments was receiving professional recognition at an awards conference after someone had once told me I was not ready for the role. That experience reminded me that other people’s opinions do not define our abilities or our future. I encourage young women to remain committed to their goals, surround themselves with supportive people, learn from their mistakes, and have the courage to try again when things do not go as planned. You do not need everyone’s approval to pursue your dreams. Stay grounded in your faith, trust your purpose, and keep moving forward, even when others cannot yet see what you are capable of accomplishing. Sometimes, the very things people doubt about you become the achievements that inspire others.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in healthcare administration is balancing the operational and regulatory demands of running a facility with the responsibility of providing compassionate, high-quality resident care. As administrators, we must support our staff, manage resources effectively, maintain compliance, and ensure that residents and their families feel valued and supported. At the same time, these responsibilities create opportunities to strengthen teamwork, improve care standards, and build a positive environment for everyone involved. Earning the Bronze Award for excellence in care was an important milestone for my facility, and it motivates me to continue improving our performance and working toward higher levels of recognition. Beyond healthcare, I also see opportunities to make a difference through my business, Her Vision, where I can use my experiences to support people navigating difficult life transitions. Through my writing, speaking engagements, and mentorship, I hope to reach more people with a message of perseverance and empowerment. For me, the greatest opportunity is to combine my experience in healthcare leadership with my passion for helping others, allowing me to make a meaningful impact both within my facility and in the broader community.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me are faith, family, compassion, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. I believe in being present for the people who matter most, whether that means supporting residents and staff at work, encouraging someone through a difficult time, or spending quality time with my children, who are my world. I also value joy, authenticity, and building meaningful connections. I have a fun-loving personality, and I enjoy making people smile and creating an environment where others feel welcomed and appreciated. At work, I like bringing people together through creative activities and celebrations, because I believe that even small gestures can strengthen relationships and boost morale. Outside of work, I enjoy basketball, outdoor activities, and making memories with my family. Above all, my faith reminds me to remain grounded in my purpose and to use my experiences to uplift others. Whether I am leading a healthcare team, growing Her Vision, or caring for my family, I strive to lead with compassion, perseverance, and a genuine desire to help people feel valued and inspired.
