Her Story

About Morgan

Morgan Patterson is the Founder and CEO of Cover Yer Assets, a Made in USA outdoor apparel company based in Tallahassee, Florida, dedicated to helping women explore the outdoors with greater confidence, comfort, and privacy. Inspired by her own experience while walking the 500 mile Camino de Santiago across Spain, Patterson founded the company to address a challenge many women face when traditional restroom access is unavailable. Her flagship product, the patent pending Stealth Skort, reflects her commitment to innovation, functionality, and empowering women to enjoy activities such as hiking, kayaking, gardening, traveling, and golfing without compromise.

Before launching Cover Yer Assets, Patterson spent 35 years serving others as an emergency room nurse, Life Flight paramedic, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, hospice professional, and health educator. Her career in healthcare was built on compassion, advocacy, and supporting people through some of life's most vulnerable moments, values that continue to shape her leadership and business today.

Transitioning into entrepreneurship after retirement, Patterson taught herself product development, manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, and business operations while building Cover Yer Assets from the ground up. She developed the company through the Florida State University Jim Moran Institute LEAP program and remains committed to manufacturing every product in the United States while fostering partnerships that align with her core values of integrity, resilience, sustainability, and creating opportunities for women.

In addition to leading her company, Patterson is a minister, spiritual coach, author, and speaker. She is currently writing her second book, 52 Weeks to Santiago, which chronicles the journey that inspired her entrepreneurial path. Through her work, Patterson continues to encourage women to embrace new adventures, proving that meaningful innovation and purpose can begin at any stage of life.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Morgan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to embracing change and having the courage to pursue a new purpose. After retiring from my career as an ER nurse, I founded Cover Your Assets to create innovative products that help women feel safer and more confident outdoors while remaining committed to manufacturing in the U.S. using recycled materials. Success for me also means giving back, which is why I proudly donate 10% of every sale to Water.org to help make a positive impact in communities around the world.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that it’s never too late to pursue a new purpose. After retiring as an ER nurse, I started my business, Cover Your Assets, at age 68 and embraced the challenge of becoming a solopreneur. Along the way, I’ve learned everything from product design and sewing to marketing and manufacturing, proving that lifelong learning and a willingness to adapt can open the door to meaningful new opportunities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Always be a servant to others and your community and always find a way to truly make a difference in the world.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is balancing business growth with staying true to my values. I believe in manufacturing our products in the United States using recycled materials, even when that approach comes with higher costs and more complex decisions. While there are opportunities to reduce expenses through overseas manufacturing, I remain committed to creating products responsibly and maintaining the quality, sustainability, and purpose behind Cover Your Assets.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are service, compassion, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Throughout my career as a trauma nurse and sexual assault examiner, I was guided by a servant leadership mindset and a commitment to supporting people during some of their most vulnerable moments. After retiring from nursing, I carried that same mission forward through my work, community involvement, and efforts to create a positive impact in the world.

Outside of my professional life, I value time with my husband, family, and the experiences that bring us joy. We enjoy taking long walks, camping, and traveling together, creating memories and appreciating the opportunities that life brings.
