Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nancy

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my Midwest upbringing with strong work ethic from my carpenter father and housekeeper mother, combined with early advice to always do things with the highest level of quality and not take anything personal. Holding onto dreams through education and career steps has been key.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice was to do whatever you do with the highest level of quality, whether waiting tables or anything else. Also, don't take anything personal to keep your core self intact.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take the first steps even if not perfect, keep getting back up after setbacks, pivot when needed, and be lifelong learners. This is an extraordinary time with new tools like AI available.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI presents both phenomenal opportunities for innovation and hazards if organizations misuse it for layoffs or fail to take people on the journey. Groupthink and short-sighted decisions are challenges; prudent step-by-step adoption is key.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and integrity from my small-town Midwest roots where reputation mattered. Knowing when to walk away from situations that compromise values and always doing the right thing.
