I built a career during my family's busiest years, and that shaped the entrepreneur I became. Balance wasn't about dividing time equally, but being intentional each season.

Her Story

About Natalie

Leadership can be rewarding, complex, and sometimes isolating. I believe leaders need space to think clearly, not simply more advice about what to do.

My work is grounded in helping leaders slow down long enough to examine what’s happening, recognize patterns, consider possibilities, and make intentional decisions about what comes next. I draw on experience in education, organizational leadership, coaching, and corporate environments, but I don’t believe there is a single formula for effective leadership. Context matters. People matter. And good questions matter.

Through Natalie Ann Coaching, I work with leaders who are navigating change, making difficult decisions, stepping into new responsibilities, or simply recognizing that the way they’ve been leading may need to evolve.

Writing is also central to my work. Through my book, About Professional Learning, and my ongoing writing on leadership and professional growth, I explore the experiences, decisions, setbacks, and relationships that shape how we lead.

At the center of both my coaching and writing is a simple belief: clarity creates space for more intentional choices.

Ten minutes with Natalie

01What do you attribute your success to?

Curiosity and a willingness to keep learning, even mid-career. I've moved through classrooms, district offices, and corporate settings, and each transition asked me to set aside what I thought I knew and pay attention again. That habit of staying curious, rather than assuming I already had the answer, has shaped how I coach and how I lead.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

That's a twofold answer. First, your title doesn't make you a leader, your presence does. Someone I worked with early in my career reminded me that people follow how you show up, not what your business card says.

The second is closely related: a dear mentor and friend once told me to do what I say I will do, when I say I'll do it, and to be careful about what I commit to in the first place. I've carried both lessons into every role since, and together they're at the heart of what I now help other leaders discover for themselves.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't wait until you feel fully ready to take the next step, readiness often comes from doing the thing, not before it. I also believe strongly in finding mentors and peers who will tell you the truth, not just what's comfortable. Growth happens in that honest space.

And finally: being female is not a handicap, not a detriment, and not something you need to overcome. It's a gift. We're made differently. Understand that, use it, and embrace it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Leaders today are navigating more complexity and faster change with less time to think it through. That's both the challenge and the opportunity: the leaders who build in space to reflect, rather than just react, are the ones who make better decisions and build healthier teams. Coaching that helps people slow down and think clearly is more needed now than ever.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Clarity, intention, and honesty, with others and with myself. I believe good questions matter more than quick answers, and that context and people matter more than formulas. Those same values guide how I show up outside of work, too.
