Ten minutes with Navita
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, persistence, and a commitment to never giving up when challenges arise. I view obstacles as learning experiences and approach them with resilience, faith, and a mindset of growth, believing that each difficulty has ultimately made me stronger. Over time, this outlook has shaped not only my professional journey but also my ability to serve as a role model and source of inspiration for others, including my family, colleagues, and medical students who rotate through my office. Ultimately, it is a combination of dedication, perseverance, personal integrity, and a commitment to doing everything from the heart that has defined my career and the positive impact I strive to make on those around me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to follow your heart and not be influenced by parental expectations, siblings, or peer pressure, as those external forces often do not lead to true fulfillment. What truly matters is choosing a path that aligns with your own passion and purpose and then committing to it with persistence and discipline. I have learned that success does not happen overnight—like the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. It requires patience, consistency, and resilience over time. With persistence, the results eventually come, and the journey itself becomes meaningful and rewarding.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this field is to lead with sincerity, integrity, and a genuine commitment to patient care. Always do your work from the heart and stay honest in your practice, focusing on what is truly best for the patient rather than trying to impress others or demonstrate advanced techniques for recognition alone. In medicine, consistency and responsibility matter deeply patients may not notice every success, but even a single mistake can have significant consequences. That is why it is important to be careful, thoughtful, and grounded in every decision you make. Approach your work in a smart, disciplined, and compassionate way, and let excellence in patient care not ego guide your path.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field include the increasing complexity of healthcare delivery in the United States, where patient expectations are often shaped by a service-oriented model that may not fully reflect the extensive education, training, and sacrifice required in medicine. As a female physician of Indian origin, there are also additional challenges in establishing trust, credibility, and equitable recognition, which often requires greater effort and consistency in demonstrating competence and commitment. Despite these challenges, I remain grounded in my purpose and approach my work with dedication, integrity, and compassion, believing that genuine care and consistency ultimately build strong patient relationships and trust. At the same time, I see meaningful opportunities in advancing women’s healthcare through more holistic, patient-centered models that integrate physical, emotional, and preventive wellness, as well as expanding services that support overall well-being and improve the quality of care for diverse patient populations.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are honesty, persistence, compassion, and integrity. I believe strongly in taking a leadership approach in my work, being hardworking, and remaining goal-oriented in everything I do. These principles guide how I care for patients, make decisions, and navigate challenges in my field. I also value resilience and a commitment to continuous growth, staying focused and dedicated even when faced with obstacles. Ultimately, I strive to remain compassionate and driven, always moving forward with purpose and a deep commitment to doing meaningful work.
