Her Interview
Ten minutes with Novella
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to the extraordinary leaders and mentors who have invested in my journey, beginning with the foundation my parents provided and continuing through the intentional relationships I have cultivated throughout my career. Their encouragement, wisdom, candor, and example have shaped how I lead, helped me navigate challenges, and challenged me to continually grow.
I have learned that success is rarely achieved alone. Surrounding myself with people who inspire me, challenge my thinking, offer honest feedback, and genuinely support my growth has been instrumental in shaping both my personal and professional journey. I am deeply grateful for those relationships and recognize that the lessons and perspectives they have shared continue to influence the leader I am today—and the leader I strive to become.
I am deeply grateful for the people who have poured into me throughout my journey. Their influence is woven into the leader I am today, and it is one of the reasons I am so passionate about pouring into others. For me, true leadership is not simply about what we accomplish; it is also about who we help rise, who we empower, and the legacy we leave through the people we influence. My greatest measure of success is not how far I have gone alone, but how many people I have been able to encourage, develop, and help move forward along the way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is simple: stay open to feedback and never stop growing. I have embraced the belief that feedback is a gift because it gives us an opportunity to see ourselves through another lens, challenge our assumptions, and become better versions of ourselves.
Throughout my career, I have learned that growth often begins at the edge of our comfort zone—and sometimes with a conversation we may not want to have. Being willing to listen, even when the feedback is difficult, has allowed me to reflect, adjust, and continuously improve. It has strengthened not only my skills and leadership capabilities, but also my relationships and ability to collaborate effectively with others.
As leaders, we do not have to have all the answers. What matters is having the humility to listen, the courage to learn, and the willingness to act on what we hear. I believe the most effective leaders are lifelong learners who understand that every experience, every challenge, and every piece of feedback can make us better.
For me, feedback is a gift—and the greatest value of that gift is what we choose to do with it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the field is simple: own who you are, know your value, and never shrink yourself to fit someone else’s definition of success.
Stay grounded in your values and have the courage to bring your authentic voice, perspective, and strengths to every room you enter. There will be moments when you find yourself in environments where you may be underestimated, overlooked, or navigating spaces that have traditionally been male-dominated. In those moments, remember that you earned your seat at the table—and your perspective belongs there.
Be intentional about building relationships. Seek out mentors who will teach you, sponsors who will advocate for you, and leaders who will challenge you to grow. Continue learning, remain open to feedback, and be willing to take risks that stretch you beyond your comfort zone.
Most importantly, never compromise who you are in pursuit of where you want to go. Success should not require you to sacrifice your values, your voice, or your authenticity.
Authenticity gives you your voice. Confidence gives you the courage to use it. Resilience gives you the strength to keep going. And when you combine all three, you have the power to create meaningful and lasting impact—not only for yourself, but for the women who will follow you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in human resources today are rooted in how organizations respond to a rapidly changing world of work. HR is no longer simply an administrative function; it has become a strategic driver of organizational resilience, workforce effectiveness, culture, and long-term business success.
Organizations are navigating significant challenges, including attracting and retaining top talent, addressing widening skills gaps, integrating artificial intelligence and automation responsibly, navigating increasingly complex compliance and labor requirements, and supporting employee well-being in an environment where burnout and the demand for greater work-life balance continue to shape the employee experience.
At the same time, these challenges create tremendous opportunities for HR leaders to redefine their impact. The integration of AI, for example, requires HR to think beyond technology and focus on how organizations can reskill their workforce, redesign jobs, strengthen leadership capabilities, and ensure that innovation remains human-centered. HR leaders also have an opportunity to use data and technology to make smarter workforce decisions while preserving the culture, connection, and trust that drive engagement and performance.
The post-COVID workplace has reinforced an important lesson: organizations cannot separate business performance from the people who make that performance possible. HR has a critical role in helping organizations navigate transformation, mitigate risk, strengthen culture, build resilient workforces, and align talent strategies with evolving business priorities.
Ultimately, I believe the future of HR is about balancing technology with humanity. The organizations that thrive will be those that embrace innovation while continuing to invest in their people. HR leaders have a unique opportunity to shape that future by ensuring that people remain at the center of organizational strategy, because when organizations invest in their people, they strengthen their capacity for sustainable growth and long-term success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me most, both personally and professionally, are kindness, empathy, integrity, and respect. I believe strongly in treating people with the same dignity, consideration, and respect that I would want for myself. For me, leadership begins with recognizing the humanity in every person. Everyone has a story, challenges we may not see, and experiences that have shaped who they are. Approaching people with empathy and compassion creates space for trust, connection, and meaningful relationships.
These values influence how I lead, how I make decisions, and how I show up for others. Whether I am working with an executive team, coaching a leader, navigating a difficult conversation, or simply building a relationship, I strive to listen first, lead with understanding, and treat people with dignity. I believe you can be both compassionate and accountable, empathetic and decisive, and people-centered while still being results-driven. Ultimately, the way we treat people is one of the most lasting measures of our leadership. My goal is to leave every organization, relationship, and interaction better than I found it.
