Her Story

About Priyam

I've been in the field for 7 years, designing UX and product design experiences on a system level. In my current role for the past 6 months, I work as an XR (extended reality) developer and designer, focusing on AI products and system-driven products in healthcare and fintech. I don't just design UI screens to make them look better - I work on a system level to understand consumer behavior and how users really interact with technology. I create design systems that make decision-making faster for users, ensuring there's no confusion or cognitive load, especially in areas like healthcare that need trust and a foundation of clarity. With AI now in the picture, I'm working to decrease the gap between human and AI. Throughout my career, I've worked across multiple industries including healthcare, fintech, e-commerce, food tech, and fashion. I position myself as more than a designer - I'm a problem solver, figuring out how technology can solve modern life problems in an easy way. I take user interviews, do user research, and draw in-depth roadmaps on how to resolve core problems. One of my most notable achievements is my current work with the Glimpse Group, where we're using AI to simulate interviews so students can practice with an AI avatar that gives strategic analysis of their performance, including speech patterns, grammar, language use, and field-specific knowledge. I also give back to the community by conducting workshops at colleges like NYU and NYIT, teaching students about Figma, Adobe, and how product design is evolving as a profession. I've built a community of 32,000 followers on Instagram focused on technology.

Ten minutes with Priyam

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family, mainly my mom, who has been very supportive to me. But it's also about hard work in a way that you do not give up on certain things. There are people who are way more talented, people who have way more experience, but they need to get out there and do it. So if you go out there and do it, failures are what make you. You need to understand that failures are not failures, they are just experiences making you a better person. What if I told you that you are 200 tries away, and the 201st try that you get is the success try? You'll do the 200 tries to get to the 201st try. That's what makes a successful person - just going on and on.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was from my mentors and my college. I was at a point where I was contemplating whether to do this or whether to go into traditional careers, like business management, for example, or to choose IT. They gave me advice to stick to technology because it's ever-evolving, and that's the future. I know it's very basic, but I still remember those words.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

A lot of juniors and students come to me to consult and ask what the actual industry is like, and is it worth coming into it. I always tell them, it may look tough, but once you're in it, it's the best decision they've ever taken in their lives. Just hold on to it, and once you get the hang of it, it's so good, you'll be so happy in your work every day.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the technology itself - how fast it is developing, and how people actually have to keep up with it. With AI in the picture, there are a lot of people who are resistant towards it. They are not understanding that the best designs, the best technology is not going to come from humans. It's not going to come from AI either. It's going to come from a combination of humans using this AI to develop it better. So I just feel that one bit is something which is transitioning to a new era.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I consider family very important. That's what is my base and keeps me going. Something that motivates me is also how I bring a change to users' lives. For example, someone who designed the apps or any app you see today - they wanted to solve a problem for the world. More than any profit margins or anything, it was just an experiment to resolve a problem for the world. Profits and revenue, of course, came later with the technology evolution, but it's basically to take something and solve it for the world, and then develop it.
