Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work, dedication to learning, and building strong relationships. Balancing work and school as a single parent taught me resilience, and earning my bachelor's degree opened doors to early career opportunities that propelled me forward.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Throughout my career, mentorship has shaped me profoundly. A trusted advisor from Indiana University continues to offer career insight and book recommendations that challenge my thinking. Another mentor—someone local who supported me with childcare while I completed my degree—reminded me that success is never achieved alone. We rise because someone steadied us along the way.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be compassionate and focus on building genuine relationships with everyone around you. The healthcare industry is demanding, and hiring managers are often under tremendous stress. Support your colleagues, think about how you can improve the experience of candidates, managers, and patients, and stay open to learning new skills and opportunities as the field evolves.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges include high-volume hiring pressures, nursing shortages, and the stress on hiring managers, which was especially pronounced during COVID. Opportunities lie in leveraging new recruitment platforms and continuously updating our skills through digital learning to streamline processes and meet evolving industry needs.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being compassionate and building relationships with everyone around me is fundamental to how I approach my work. My whole purpose when I do recruiting is to think about how I can improve someone else's life in that industry - whether it's the person I'm hiring, the patient, or the hiring manager - and how can I make that whole experience better for them. I believe in being willing to work hard and being open to learning new skills and new opportunities, because it's so important, especially with everything that's constantly changing. I take advantage of educational resources like LinkedIn's free courses to keep my skills sharp. Just being open to learn, willing to help others, and trying to see areas of opportunities, even in a challenging moment, I think is extremely important. We need to support each other, especially in today's world, and help one another out as much as possible.
